    Remodel

    In March 2020 just as Covid was hitting I bought a townhome in Louisville and hired Tom to do the remodel. Even during this stressful time, Tom was responsive and helpful whenever I had questions or requests. Everyone that worked at the house (painters, granite, carpenter, plumbers, electricians) showed up on time, did quality work, and (importantly) cleaned up after themselves. Tom made a stressful time and project easier because he was always calm and had solutions for any issues that arose. Would work with him again on any future projects.

    Renovation over garage and new roofline over kitchen/living area
    $250,000

    In August 2019, Tom Pennella proposed and signed a contract with us for renovating over our garage and the roofline of the kitchen/living area. He asked for a $50,000 deposit which by contract would carry us through the completion of framing inspection. The entire project was to be completed in 4 months according to the contract he proposed. When 2 months passed and less than half of the framing was up, Pennella claimed that the deposit was gone and demanded another $50K to continue the rest of the framing. He hired just framer who was moonlighting on our project and bought so little materials that the framer had to wait for him to bring in more pieces of lumber in order to continue. We asked him to provide details of his expenses incurred so we could reconcile with the deposit. He has refused to do that. This case has undisputable facts that (a) only a fraction of the framing was done when he demanded another payment, (b) the market value for the framing he did was a fraction of the deposit, (c) he hired just one moonlighting framing contractor and was severely behind schedule, (d) he deployed bait and switch tactic and pocketed a large portion of our construction deposit. Not only we had to pay for remaining of the framing, but also we had to fix problems in the part he framed due to building codes.
