We called Excalibur on a Friday afternoon. This was a non-emergency call and within business hours. The technician showed up and ran a 75 foot snake less than 10 feet and let us know we likely had a broken septic pipe, near the city line and dirt was coming off of the snake. For this service we were charged $339 to have someone come out to run a 75 foot snake less than 10 feet. I'm told this is the standard charge. We were then quoted $4100 to fix the likely broken pipe. There was mention of using the cost paid for the initial service and another discount of $199 if we went with their quote. When I called to discuss possibly putting us on the schedule, if we could agree to a price, and offered them $3600 to do the job ($3562 is the actual math w/discounts). We even inquired about their financing and were told someone would call us back. No one called us back and they actually countered with $3800 which we declined. It is unfortunate that this company lost business because they chose to take advantage of a situation. Additionally, they even showed up to our house as they had "penciled us in" without our consent. I was even told by Management that now their crew has nothing on the books because they blocked off two days. With untrustworthy business practices, questionable quotes and lack of communication - I would never recommend them. If your this far down in my review, I suggest you call your city utilities first. Even if they find it's on the homeowner's side, they're free and ran a camera as well.

There is a culture within this company of preying on the customer's inexperience and capitalizing on their hardship to overcharge without justification or explanation. The front office has given up on follow up and comunication. If they had any pride in their business it's not evident in their disposition or soft skills. During the negotiation of the $4,100 initial bid we were told we would be called back by two different people. Instead of a callback they just sent a crew out to do the work either hoping we were desperate to accept the initial bid or that maybe a different person would open the door and sign off on the work out of ignorance.
When confronted with their lack of communication and unjustifiable bid the company failed to take personal responsibility for not calling back nor did they acknowledge that their initial tech could not complete the line clean out. Their response, "Now my guys don't have any work for the next two days." because we turned them away. They also attempted to play myself and my spouse against each other insinuating that the other person was ok with their actions.
This kind of response to the customer can only come from a place where you're looking to make as much money as you can with as little effort as possible. Excalibur needs to take serious inspection of whether they want to be the best in town or if they just want to make money and alienate themselves and lose repeat business.
There are other companies who want your business and you'll notice the difference in their reasonable rates and courtesy.
My neighbor and i ended up doing the repair for less than $500 and in about 8-10 hours over a three day weekend. That's close to 90% less than their bid of $4,100 which does not include the intial failed line clean for $340.
My advice: Don't panic or act out of desperation. Call at least three different companies before youhave somone come out. Call the city first.
