On my $60,000 garage conversion project in San Jose, Excellence Construction has agreed to complete the project in 3 to 4 months. 8 months have gone by, not only is the project nowhere near completion, it has become increasingly impossible to get any timely response for updates and plans on how to move project forward.
The communications with Excellence Construction has been especially poor from the onset. There are 2 project managers but simple questions and request for status to the project manager(s) are often left unanswered for days, some times even weeks. As a client, I have raised my concerns multiple times to management. Apologies were made; things improve for 1-2 weeks, only to deteriorate again. After paying tens of thousands of dollars to Excellence Construction and having the project seemingly completely stuck without clear explanation on how to move forward, I have no choice but to share my experience with others. I have also filed a complaint with California State License Board.
Given how brazenly bad Excellence Construction has been in handling this project, I'm curious if any others have had similar experience. Please send me a message or post a review if you have had a similar experience with Excellence Construction.
Update: Others have reached out after I filed the complaint, it looks like I'm not the only one that have been dealing with serious issues with Excellence Construction. I have also gotten a suspicious review activity warning from Yelp indicating that Excellence Construction has participated in a deceptive review ring. Buyer beware!

Wow where to even begin. I want to share my experience here so other homeowners are not duped like we were. The main reason we signed with them is because they said our project would be completed in 6 weeks with multiple crews working at a time. None of this happened. Once we signed they would send one or two guys to work maybe a couple times a week. There were many days when no one showed up at all. When we asked the workers why they weren’t coming everyday they informed us that they were not getting paid. We were shocked to learn this as we had been paying Liyah on our side anytime an invoice was sent. To not pay the subcontractors for their hard work is infuriating. Liyah demanded full payment on items that were never completed threatening us that if we didn’t pay she would cease all work in our property. There are a multitude of items we paid in full (i.e flooring) that she never completed. We had two sets of stairs with bare plywood on them for months. With two children in the house this was completely unacceptable. Whenever we raised concerns that these big items that we already paid for in full were incomplete she claimed these items were just ‘touch ups’. In our understanding touch ups are minor..paint scuffs here and there, fine cosmetic tweaking, etc NOT flooring on stairs installed etc. I have spoken to a couple other homeowners who have had a similar experience with Liyah Lee. Apparently, she has no qualms in not paying subcontractors and closing her business only to reopen on a new company name. She also claimed to put a mechanics lien on our property which we find absurd as she has been paid in full for incomplete work. CSLB has been trying to get a hold of Liyah Lee from Excellence Construction as she has been actively evading them. The lead investigator has said we are the third complaint regarding Liyah and Excellence Construction (IR whatever company name she’s going with now) within a short time. Previous license number on her website was 1052292 and the new number she is operating under is 1052392. Pls be advised homeowners.

I didn't originally plan to hire them for my kitchen remodeling project, but ended up hiring them because the last company canceled. I am fortunate to have worked with them because they used quality materials, worked within the tineline they gave and enforced quality workmanship throughout the entirety of this project. I'm actually glad the last company canceled because if they hadn't, i would of never had the opportunity to work with Excellence Construction.

The upstairs work was completed in December 2018, It was completely gutted with all new plumbing, electrical, all the walls removed and the layout changed. Ray , Valentin and 10 more guys created a gorgeous new bathroom with a walk-in shower and separate tub. They put down all new hardwood, installed beautiful modern interior doors, new vanity, toilet, pot lights, plumbing, everything brand new with excellent quality and workmanship.
I especially appreciated the little details. I love the modern transformation by Excellence Construction and I'm very happy with the fact that Liyah was on site everyday, resolved all of my concerns and completed the project on time and as agreed!

Completely satisfied with Excellence Construction and their ability to confidently and competently managed my kitchen design project. My family and I just finished our bathroom renovation + we love it every day! After researching several companies, by chance I passed Excellence Construction . I walked in and a very friendly Liyah immediately greeted me. She told me all about the complete service package that Her company provides, their expertise in working with co-op + building’s requirements, getting all the permits, design + sourcing , fixtures and materials , electrical, through to installation + all finishing in high quality product and clean up in the end , They handled it all well done!!!!
Liyah were my designers and based on my discussions with her she gave us a beautiful, modern bathroom design my family envisioned.
Valentin was my Project Manager and he was So great!!! He was there with me every step of the way. He answered all my worries questions and I had many because this was our first remodeling ever. I am told no remodeling is without it’s glitches but his Team took care of everything!
I have already referred two couples to Excellence construction looking to do complete remodeling of their places.
I’m so great full and thankful for Liyah and Valentin and their team!
Soon we’ll call back to remodeling the kitchen.

Excellence Construction completed a couple of smaller jobs for me, the installation of a gas line and stove, a new tile floor and a backyard deck with some custom features. Each project has been priced fairly and the work has exceeded my expectations. Team are vary professional, on time and do quality work. I highly recommend them and will use them again for any future projects.
