Ferri Construction Co Reviews

Alex Ferri (d/b/a Elite Contracting Group) is not ready to be out on his own as a contractor. At first, he makes a good impression and seems knowledgeable, but the follow-through proved to be lacking.
Feel free to read of our experience and be your own judge before you hire him.
We hired Alex to fill in our 40-foot swimming pool. He did not do the job according to the contract, in the correct order, and most importantly did not use the correct materials or compact it correctly.
He does not understand basic civil engineering/earthwork design principles and terminology.
He has a tendency to minimize vital problems and issues that are presented to him. He tries to tell you it will all be okay, and that your concerns are no issue.
He made it a tense fight every step of the way, always making excuses for his poor, quickly and haphazardly done workmanship.
He tried to pass off a cheap load of construction debris/trash/wood as proper fill, and we spent our own time picking out the worst of it ourselves.
He tried to dump a load of concrete towards the top of the grade and told us it was “structural fill.” Although this was outside of the contract terms, we were told that if we didn’t want it, we would have to pay him to remove it. We did fight over this point and he did ultimately remove it himself.
He spread what should have been a 3-day job over a month. It was then too late to plant grass.
On the last day of the job, he pressured us (he is aggressive and unapologetic) all morning to pay him the remaining half of the money for the job -- before he was finished. He told us he needed to pay his mortgage.
He was going to leave the fence unfinished and told us that reinstalling the fence was a courtesy when in fact the contract scope of work stated, “uninstall and reinstall fence.” He did ultimately reinstall the fence, although it was incorrectly installed and damaged by him. We had to have the fence removed again, and then reinstalled correctly.
We are left with a lot of work to do to finish what he left us with. The worst of which is – due to his improper compaction or attention to detail – the edges of the pool are already sunk down much farther than the rest of the pool and more dirt has to be brought in. Our feet sink down around 12 inches when we step near the side of the pool.
We write this review as we want to help others avoid the stress that we went through in trying to work with Alex Ferri(d/b/a Elite Contracting Group, Ferri Construction Co., 64 Bismark St. Providence, RI, MA-HIC#-206098, RI GC#-GC-9400).
