Bottom line: Not recommended. Don McAfee is a nice and very courteous person who unfortunately doesn't follow through with his commitments. I hired FloorPlay (Don and Carlos) to tile my master bathroom floors, walls, tub surround, shower, etc, and they never ended up finishing the job (got about 95% complete). I trusted Don that he would finish the untiled areas as punchlist items and I paid him 100% since I was headed overseas (active duty military), but that is where I went wrong because he never came back. Additionally, the shower pan was not properly sloped, so there is always 1/4" to 1/2" ponding water on my new shower floor.
Don has been promising me for almost a year now that he will come by to wrap things up, but never comits to a date/time. Most of the time he is completely unresponsive (doesn't answer/return phone calls and rarely texts back), and when he does respond, he always has an excuse why he can't show up or schedule something. His workmanship is usually average to above average, which is why I hired him back to do my bathroom, but the shower floor is a dissapointment. His quotes are reasonable, although he did underbid my bathroom project and asked for additional money halfway through, which I gave him.
I want to believe that Don is a good person and means well, but at this point, I feel taken advantage of and have lost trust and confidence in him. I'd consider FloorPlay to be more of a tile subcontractor without a foreman who can adequately schedule/manage their workload and follow through with commitments. I am now getting quotes from other contractors to finish the remaining work that Don didn't, and to tear out and repour the shower floor pan and install new tile. So much for the "good lay".
