By GdApril 23, 2021Floor installation, small bathroom remodel, painting$26,000Read more
It’s been years since Frank did an absolutely disastrous job on our condo renovations, and we’re still paying to redo the work he did so poorly. Total cost, not including materials, of renovating a small bathroom, installing flooring and painting: $26,000. Estimated amount of work he did that hasn’t had to be redone: $3-4,000. Frank obviously overscheduled himself and threw together a completely unskilled crew he left without any supervision. Literally 36 hours before we had to move in, the work was half done, the condo was full of trash and Frank just didn’t seem to care. Reluctantly responding to our increasingly frantic calls, he finally assigned someone to oversee the crew, but it took months more for the “work” to be finished.
The floor the crew “installed” is buckling, gapping and receding as much as a full foot from the baseboards. It will have to be completely torn out and replaced at huge expense and inconvenience. The crew failed to buy enough paint and left the place with huge unpainted and underpainted spots. We had to pay a painter to redo everything. The grout in the bathroom was mixed incorrectly and had to be dug out and replaced, and the grout haze Frank’s guy smeared all over the tile had to be chemically removed by a competent contractor—all at our expense. The shower control is comically installed at mid-thigh level and can’t be moved. Frank’s guys even managed to ruin two new fabric-colored ceiling lamps because they didn’t wash their hands before reinstalling and left giant brown streaks (ugh) on the lamps. This is just a partial list of the problems associated with Frank’s work. Our condo could serve as a textbook example of how not to perform any of these tasks.
As we tried to resolve these issues, Frank did his famous disappearing act (documented on Houzz and elsewhere in reviews from other clients he left in the lurch). He simply couldn’t be reached for months by clients and suppliers who’d given him money and crew members he owed money. He eventually reemerged and “solved” all this by declaring bankruptcy and letting everyone else pay for his lack of competence and ethics. It’s really disappointing to see that his company is an active Illinois corporation right now and can still take advantage of clients. Buyer beware—really beware.

Fran Mok
DFrank Did a great job in the rehab of our two flat to a single family home.
Everything he promised to do, he was able to accomplish on time, he is very honest and always tells you what to expect from him. He was able to explain beforehand everything we needed to know about the project. He is very reliable and as of today I still trust him to do regular maintenance in our home.
I highly recommend Frank. -

Frank knows what he is doing and is honest. He put on a new roof and fixed leaks that a number of other contractors failed to remedy. AND HE CALLS BACK WHEN YOU TRY TO REACH HIM!!!

By Joseph C.June 18, 2015Single-Family home gut rehab240 daysExcellent Contractor - great experience
I first worked with Frank and his team when we hired him for a gut rehab of a single-family house. I had never been thru the process, but had heard my share of horror stories. The project went very well - the quality of work was very good, and we were on-time/on budget. Frank is an excellent communicator and problem solver. All projects hit bumps in the road - the real test of a firm is how they handle those problems. And Frank Mok was wonderful. Since then, we have had several smaller projects which Frank and his team have knocked out. No job too small or too big - I have done both with Frank and I highly recommend him!

FM construction has been doing work for me for many years. They are timely and polite and do a good job with the repairs they do for us. They stand behind their work and will redo or adjust work to make it right.

Frank Mok is a problem-solver. I appreciate how he tackles tough (sometimes unexpected) elements of a project; he is creative and provides multiple options to consider. Frank has a positive attitude that helped take some of the stress out of the job.
In the past, we've used FM Construction for both kitchen remodeling and a new exterior deck. Frank's team did a terrific job. Since then, we have relied on FM to do minor maintenance (new shelving system in closets, exterior gutter repair, etc). If we have another larger project in the future, we would call on Frank again.

Our experience was the same as Gd. Money gone, shoddy work by untrained workers. Absolute nightmare. Mok appears to have gone into nursing in Wisconsin. Legal problem up there-unarmed robbery committed by him. No clue what that means. https://trellis.law/case/55079/2024cf002873/state-wisconsin-vs-franklin-chihang-mok
It appears he isn’t working construction anymore, thank God. He is also a Revoked Concealed Carry Arms Instructor. Gun nut. Also an oxycontin abuser in our experience. There is also a bad review on the Better Business Bureau for his company. Apparently he really screwed up a new roof for one client.
