    Spray Foam Insulation
    $12,000

Foametix was hired to insulate our new construction house. The first issue that we noticed was hardened yellow foam insulation dropped into our bathtub. The tub was left unprotected by either the contractor or Foametix crew. The globs of foam were scraped off by the painter, but the finished was damaged. The next issue was when a foundation repair company, which also does the same type of work, pointed out that Foametix did not spray the foam in our crawlspace correctly and they failed to leave an approx. 4 inch inspection strip bare for detection of possible termite damage. We were also getting outrageous cooling bills, even though we keep our AC on a conservative setting. We called Foametix to inform them of our concerns. The owner we initially spoke with said that he would do whatever it takes to make certain that we are satisfied. He said that they would have our bathtub repaired or replaced and address all of the additional concerns as well. We’re not sure which one of them came to the house, but he said that his product was installed properly and he had no concerns. Eventually they agreed to fix the crawlspace, when we pushed them, but they denied responsibility for the damaged bathtub. By this time we had lived in the house for several months, up to a year. Their workman came and redid the foam on the wall/floor transition and patched a hole left by the building contractor. They failed to correct the termite inspection situation and would not acknowledge the fact that it is necessary. Later, they made up a story that they saw “gray foam” in the bathtub when they first came to the house and their foam is yellow, but we had already been using the tub for a long time before they ever came to inspect and there was no “gray foam” used anywhere in the house! So, our tub remains damaged. The next issue was when we attempted to get a termite company to perform a treatment on the house and secure a WDO bond. Our Pest Control company refused to treat or guarantee the house so it could pass inspection, in the event that we sell. We were told by multiple pest control companies, home inspectors and realtors that they have encountered many issues with homes treated with spray foam insulation and namely by Foametix. We contacted Foametix and they gave us the name and number of a pest control company who they assured us could; “makes it very easy and clear as far as what he needs to see in order to protect and warranty against insects”. He added that we would have to pay (Foametix) additional $400 (in addition to the $12,000 already paid) in order to have them correct the way they installed their product! We called the owner of the pest control company, mentioned by Foametix, and he seemed aggravated that they gave me his info. He was empathetic but said that he could not help us due to the way that our house had been treated with spray foam. He indicated that he has spoken with several home owners who have had big problems selling their homes treated in the manner in which Foametix applies their product. He also indicated that the inspection strip should be left every time as well as the fact that the product should not be applied all the way to the ground either, as ours was applied. We then called a neighbor who had Foametix treat their house, about a year or 2 after ours was treated. They indicated that the inspection strip was left bare on their job and, to their knowledge, they were not charged additional for it. We wrote another email to Foametix informing them of what the pest control company they recommended said and what our neighbor said. We also mentioned that an inspector from the state should be coming to inspect our house for other issues as well and that we would be asking about the application of the spray foam at that time. We asked them to reconsider correcting their work and that we look forward to hearing back from them. The next day we received a voicemail from one of the owners stating that they would not be doing anything else without additional payment and that someone had been “threatening” them, implying that it was us! This was a strange development and we surmise that it was intended to distract from the issue at hand; the fact that they were going to charge us for something that they should have done to begin with! We are extremely concerned about the termite/wood destroying organism situation, as well as the fact that the house will probably fail inspection when we try to sell. We feel that Foametix has been untruthful and impossible to deal with. After having spent $12,000 with them, that’s just no way to treat a client who made them a huge profit.
