I cannot thank Frank and his crew enough. They are truly outstanding.
I consider myself a moderately intelligent person. I can read and follow directions. I can watch how to videos on YouTube. But when the prior homeowners decided to do crazy, insane, and flat-out wrong things, I quickly grew frustrated and at a loss. A1 was able to isolate and fix part 1 of my plumbing issues quickly and got the plumbing working again.
Story time: a little over a week ago, we started having sewer line problems. “No problem”, I thought to myself. Rent a 75-foot snake from big box hardware store, run the lines, and clear the clog. Easy.
Problem: my home doesn’t have a drain cleanout! No problem, I thought. We’ll pull the toilet from one of the bathrooms and run the snake from there. Water started flowing again, I put the toilet back, and all was right with the world. Until a week later when it happened again.
No problem, I thought. Maybe one of the drain vents is partially clogged. So, my girlfriend (God bless her) and I climb up on the roof, verify the drain vents aren’t partially clogged. New plan – let’s run a light weight, 25-foot snake through the tubs. Then we rented another 75-foot snake and ran the lines. And nothing…
So, I’m a little frustrated. This house must have a drain cleanout. What sort of house doesn’t have a drain cleanout? My girlfriend hops under the house, finds the sewer line, and we measure where it should come out of the house. And we start digging. Maybe it was just covered up over the years. Nope, we dig for an hour and find nothing. At this point we’re both ready to call in a professional. A coworker recommended A1, so I called to have them come out.
They came out, assessed the situation, and quickly dug up and uncovered the sewer line (we were off by less than a foot). The previous owner took an angle grinder, cut into the main sewer line to clear it out, and when they were finished just put a rock over the hole and covered the line back up… I should be furious, but I can’t stop laughing about this. No installing a cleanout, no closing the hole up. Nope, let’s just put a rock over the hole and close it up!
Our sewer line is Orangeburg Pipe that’s lasted more than 15 years past its lifespan. It’s served us well, but Frank and A1 Plumbing will be out next week to bring us up to date and code with a fresh, sparkly new sewer line. Plus, I’m sure we’ll get that cleanout installed.
Thank you, Frank and A1 Plumbing. I cannot thank you enough, and I look forward to the new line.
