Fred did the work for our backyard and also widening the driveway by 3 feet on each side. The Concrete work itself is pretty good, its only been less than 7 days and so far it looks okay, the concrete has what appears to be some black stairs but I don't know if that will go away when it finishes drying. My main reason for not recommending this contractor is for the lack of communication on his part. He asked for a upfront payment and wanted it that day this although he was the one insisting on starting the work on our project before payment schedule was even discussed. Never the less we gave him a deposit and he wrote up a handwritten contract something that struck me as odd due to the high number of years he reported having experience in running this business. This fact didn't hit me until he asked for a check the day the concrete was poured even though he had been working on the project for a week at that point. When I handed him cash because that's the only form of payment he takes. He balked at the idea and told me if I didn't pay for the cement truck in check the cement company would put a lien on my house!! I soon did some research on this cement company and they do in fact put liens on people’s homes who do not pay them that day. In My opinion that would only happen if the contractor didn't tell them in advance this would be happening and that a lien could be placed if payment wasn't given by check to that company. How would the property owner know this?? Another interesting fact that I learned from the yelp page of the cement company is that people who do business with contractors often put in the contract that if a lien is placed on a home for none payment by a sub contractor of the initial contractor, the contractor is in breach of the contract. This makes sense now why there was a short quickly written contract drawn up by Fred. Oh and one last thing about Fred, he talks a lot of game about doing things the write way and being great with communication, but did he ask for the mulch he removed when he widened my driveway or the blank he had to remove? No neither did he ask for some of the dirt he took from my backyard. All of which he helped himself to. These are minor things and I wouldn't have batted an eye if he asked, but to just help yourself to whatever is laying around my house is downright unprofessional. Glad we didn't go with a bigger project with him nor did we recommend him when we were asked.
