I purchased a AC unit and installation from OC Residential in Keller, TX on May 16, 2015. June 4 unit stopped cooling, a tech came out said the unit had froze up. He asked that we program the fan so it runs continuously. July 27 unit not cooling, a tech came out and said it needed Freon... installed Freon but unit still was not cooling. So he showed us where the reset button is on the unit and said just come out and hit that to restart. July 28 another tech/Ron came out said it has too much Freon so he used water and bucket to take out some of the Freon the previous tech put in the unit. Ron told me I had a return air duct issue and he would return in a couple of days to enlarge the duct and install a new thermostat. Ron also said he would reimburse me for the ac unit I had purchased because it was 95 degrees in the house. Never was Reimbursed! August 10, I called OC regarding the duct issue and Aurora told me the duct was on order and that they were waiting for it to come in. Sept 16, unit not cooling again. Ron came out and said a valve was bad and he would get one tomorrow. Sept 17 Aurora called LVM that said this part would not be in until Sept 24th. So my family has been dealing with the heat since Sept 16th. At this point I think this unit is either faulty or it was not installed properly. If this unit wasn't faulty there's a good chance it's faulty now from all the break downs. A brand new unit should not be freezing up, needing Freon or parts going out. If the duct is too small why was that not address when the unit was installed?
I have done a little research on my old unit and the new one. My old unit was a Coleman. It had a electrostatic motor in it and therefore smaller ducts cold be used and it works fine. These units are used a lot for mobile homes due to lack of space. My home is a A frame house and this unit was used for the same reason...to give the house more space.
The new unit is made by Rheem and it does not have a electrostatic motor. Therefore the ducts need to be much larger. OC Services installed the wrong unit for my existing ducts and it has had a toll on this new unit and that is why we have had so may issues with it not working.
I have lost all confidence in the installation, the techs and the unit. I do not want these guys cutting into my house and making even a bigger problems. There has been a couple of scheduled no shows no call and the fact that I could not speak with a manager or supervisor was a huge problem for me. Mr. French has not been forth coming to resolve this issue. My family has been without air for over a month now.
