I was building a small addition to my home and had hired all the other contractors that were recommended or used by me in the past. I then needed only a plumber. I searched online and found this company and a few others who I contacted. The owner, Mike, got back to me quickly. He seemed to have a quick grasp of the project and came to my house the next day to discuss. He seemed very agreeable. He also gave me fair price after l showed him the plans.
We signed a basic agreement he drew up. The only odd thing was that he insisted on being paid, almost half up front, and then when half was completed, basically the other half, with a little left over for the very end. I protested, as you rarely pay your contractor in advance. He insisted in the nicest way that this is how he always did it. He was local and licensed and I needed a good plumber, so I begrudgingly agreed. Once I obtained my permits, I got Mike to begin. He did the initial work, but then it took longer and longer for him to come back and continue. He had lots of reasons for delaying. It pushed my project back in the end by months, as other trades could not finish their work, because the plumbing wasn't done.
I almost terminated him several times, but he would always calmly explain why he couldn't be here and promised to pick up shortly. He eventually finished the first part after I kept after him. We made our peace and I foolishly gave him most of the other half of payment to continue. The gap in coming to do work increased. There were job and personal issues he cited. He would say he was going to come work and not show up.
Finally I asked him to agree to refund a portion of the money I paid him , so I could get someone else to finish the work. I agreed to a lesser amount than I was owed, and he said yes. Weeks went by and he did not pay. More reasons he cited.
Finally I sued him in small claims court and obtained a judgment. To date it has still not been paid. None of it. This is the last thing you want when you hire someone to do work for you.
So, no, I would not recommend him in any way.
