Yoder built our home in 1999 and from day one after the contract was signed,he was the same way. Our home still has problems from the basement to the ceilings. After we moved in, he was showing our home when we told him 'no'. We had the locks changed and then we were ignored referencing any repairs still needed.. We were lucky our house didn't burn down; the electric contractors never connected main breaker properly. 1:00 am we had smoke alarms going off, I&M Electric out and a creditable electrician out to our house. We were told that the electrical current was 'arcing' by the breaker box & the outside wiring & that whoever did the wiring for the house really screwed up! After our problems progressed we started looking more in depth about Mr. Yoder. Financing came from his ex-wife Patricia Adler @ Shoreline Bank in Michigan where we believe she was an officer of the Bank at the time. Prior to this Yoder had filed bankruptcy and only second or third rate sub-contractors would work with him. With talking to the Home Builders Assn here in St. Joseph County, Indiana Garden Homes is done.
He has some 'new' subdivisions in the surrounding areas, 'sorry' to all!We learned the hard way, so remember 'if' EL Yoder a/ka Leroy Yoder comes knocking to build your home...run the opposite direction fast!

Garden Homes has been the worst company I have ever dealt with. We signed a contract with them to build our home in March of 2011 and it has been the most painful and stressful process of our life. Leroy Yoder talks down to customers and flat out lies. It has been 12 weeks with no response, no work and no progress on our home. We had to get a lawyer involved due to Garden Homes owing sub contractors and suppliers lots of money.
Stay away from Garden Homes and Village Homes (both belong to E L Yoder

Garden Home LC is a recently formed company. Only two homes have been completed by Garden Home LC, both of which went without a hitch. Two other homes in construction are proceeding on schedule.
The original Garden Homes by E.L., Inc. exists, but is no longer functioning as a builder. As has been true for many builders in the Michiana area, slow sales and high overhead got the better of them. Unfortunely, it did catch three customers, the vendors, and employees when the cash flow came to a halt. I should know, working for them almost eleven years. I lost my job as part of the former company closing.
Would I still recommend building with Garden Home LC - you bet! The firm ran for over 30 years producing some of the coolness custom homes in the area. Most of Erskine Manor was designed and built by GH. The reformed company is still about design, and taking first class care of the customer. And the newly finished homes demonstate this completely.
I should know this, as I am now doing freelance design for the new firm.
