Gary Shaw does build a custom house- no cookie-cutter stuff; I will say that, but that’s where it ends.
He uses 2nd grade contractors, who obviously work cheap because their finishing is, well, SECOND GRADE!!!
The drywall is wavy, joints and screws are visible, the coffered ceilings have ridges between the lumber, light fixtures and door/drawer hardware is as cheap as possible, landscaping isn’t worth a flip (we had to rip 90% of it out because it was junk and/or dead. Ceiling fans not in the center of the room, exterior lights not installed to code (no junction boxes - lights fastened directly to the soffit), dirty hand marks on the ceilings where lights were installed, Banisters were not straight, bathroom tiles installed were reject (warped and twisted), water pools in the shower floor, shower shelves are so slanted that everything slides off when wet, and the list goes on and on and on! I would not recommend using Gary Shaw construction for your builder - not unless you’re prepared to hire real tradesmen to correct half of the things inside.
