I really liked David one of the partners and chief mechanic that showed up everyday. Overall the job is very attractive. Ge took on a job that probably 90% of the contractors wouldn't and that is work with my existing tile, and that brought on challenges. My disappointment is in the what some might consider minor details. I'm referring to six holes that they drilled in the tile to mount the glass doors. And this is because they kept needing to adjust the door location. Also they knew they had to adjust the soffit above the shower and they did modify it but not enough, and when it came time to install the doors, they rubbed against the top of the soffit. These items were mistakes made by Ge and they should have replaced the tile and fully fixed the soffit. There was a point where the ceiling came crashing down on top of my bed which was below the bathtub. This left a hole approximately 3 x 4 feet. I had a late meeting and came home around 10 pm and found the patch that they had started was unacceptable. They used drywall to fill the hole but hadn't shimmed it to match the plaster and lath ceiling and there was about a 1/8" difference between the two. They had started filling this in but they were using tapping compound. In addition they hadn't used any mesh tape to prevent cracking on the long perimeter joint. I couldn't sleep in the bed as it was full of dust, so I started working on the repair myself. I had a roll of 6" wide mesh tape and a bag of patching plaster that I mixed and spent all night filling in the hole. I wound up finishing the ceiling myself. I shouldn't have needed to do this. It was Ge that broke through the ceiling. But after seeing them using tapping compound for something that should have been more foundational I didn't trust them. I didn't want cracks showing up after they left. One annoying point was they charged me an extra for removing the tub spout. After our first home visit I thought, why would I want to keep the spout if I no longer have a tub? I mentioned this to David and he agreed to remove it. Now this couldn't have been a surprise to an experienced remodeling team could it? In summary, I believe that any time a contractor makes a mistake it's up to him to correct it. No one drilled those holes for the doors but Ge. No one measured the soffit height but Ge. Ge came back and shaved a little off the soffit but it needs to be dropped down a couple of inches so the glass doors can be cleaned.
