By Reina B.April 13, 2021Remodel$400,000Response from Gold Hill Builders LLC December 23, 2021We read your post and it seems as though you are unhappy with the manner in which we performed work at your home. Well there are always 2 sides to every story. I am the owner of Gold Hill Builders. I started this company 20 years ago in Breckenridge, Colorado with one simple motto, Building with Integrity. Ever since I was a child my father instilled in me to always do the right thing. When I started my business he passed on one piece of valuable information and that was to be honest with your clients. I take pride in the work that we do and most people that know me say that I am a very easy going guy. I would have to say that on this project I wasn't aware of any particular conflict. On any construction job there are sometimes tough conversations that need to be had over additional costs involved. Especially, when doing custom work on an existing home that is in rough condition. We had a few of these conversations but to my recollection they all went perfectly and were conducted with caring and compassion. I do remember you holding a payment back for work that was completed for a few weeks until I purchased your appliances. (maybe this is the source of your anger)? This project was difficult for us too, as it was the first time we had to build during a global pandemic. It started just after we installed the foundation. We felt we handled the situation extremely well, as we were one of the companies that were leading the way in pushing for the village to allow us back to work. Several of our workers and sub contractors were diagnosed with covid 19. We had to follow strict guidelines set forth by the CDC and our state government to stop the spread of the virus and ensure the safety and well being of our clients and workers. The Sub Contractors and employees that work for Gold Hill are our family. We would never want to hurt anyone of them and any information that may have been disclosed to the client about any one of them is privileged information based on trust and the relationships that we build with our clients. This information should not be shared on the internet especially with regards to my wife who is an amazing person who is extremely talented, successful and hard working and has nothing to do with the business of Gold Hill. As for me the owner of Gold Hill Builders, I do my best to maintain relationships and take pride in those many relationships that I have built along the way. As a high end custom home builder I have maintained friendships with almost every client that we have worked with. It is deeply hurtful for me to know that we worked with someone that is somehow this dissatisfied with me on a personal level. Knowing that we put so much positive energy and love into building you the best home we could and in the end there will be a negativity associated with this address for all who had put in so much effort. In Conclusion, we wish you the best and hope that you enjoy your beautiful home as we do with all of our clients. We did come in Just 5% over the initial budget however we were able to add countless upgrades and add ons and had to endure price increases due to covid. We hope that you do eventually decide to pay the remaining $89,000 that you owe to our small business. We will continue to do the best for our clients and this certainly was a learning experience for us as a business and many of our sub contractor family who worked on the site. We value any rational criticism that we can take from your above review and strive to always be better. Kind Regards, Joe Sialiano Gold Hill Builders

While the workmanship of this general contractor and his crew is overall satisfactory, his level of professionalism is woefully deficient. His responses to concerns we raised were met with deflection, condescension, and complete disregard. With no skill in basic conflict resolution, Joe Sialiano often presented as a petulant child unable to receive suggestions on how to work better together. It truly reflects poorly on his company Gold Hill Builders. Thoroughly disappointed in his responsiveness and perpetual excuses missing agreed upon deadlines and not addressing budget concerns throughout the project. As a result, we question his integrity and his practices with us appeared to be as those of a used car salesman. Beyond endless excuses we were even subjected to hearing how bad things were for him financially that his wife is the breadwinner who was forced to nurse their son while on Zoom calls. He exceeded our set budget and performed work without our consent, which he later submitted change orders for. The level of engagement with this contractor was definitely the worst experience with a business ever. He presents as providing high-end building expertise but he exhibits a low-end, elementary business practice made worse by his bullying tactics. Had it not been for my partner consistently project managing, the extensive renovations would have taken much longer and required rework. What’s more is that he took little responsibility for his general contracting shortcomings and frequently blamed his subcontractors, even disclosing private information about his workers. This is the general contractor you want to hire if you 1) don’t mind handing him a blank check 2) want to spend exorbitant amounts of time reviewing his work and project managing it and 3) don’t mind being threatened and spoken to disrespectfully. And after all the difficulties with this builder, he had the nerve to use pictures of our home on his social media platforms without our consent. True, he did the work, but the design was ours. His lack of basic professional courtesy to ask if it was okay is yet another example of his lack of experience. Think twice about this general contractor; I would not want anyone else endure the erratic behavior we lived through.
