    It took us one year to recover morally from the experience we had while working with GoodFellas and Shelly, as a project manager. We had the most horrific experience with the bathroom renovation in the summer / autumn 2018. The project was supposed to be completed in 2-3 weeks and it took almost 3 months after changing 3 (!) construction teams. Who would imagine that a simple one bathroom renovation with licensed large construction company of great reviews could end up being a total disaster. It is a very long due review that hopefully will warn potential Bay Area customers, who may be the same as us mistaken by good average reviews online, however, if you pay more attention, most of them come from LA, if they are not fake at all.

    The first team: The project was run by a foreman that was not licensed, as we later discovered, while broader team would go to our kitchen, take cutlery / drinks and then throw it away after their lunch without our permission and awareness. We just found our expensive forks in the garbage one day. Most importantly, they put our property and life in danger by leaving open active electrical wires together with the old outlet right next to the insulation and closing all of it with new drywalls, which we discovered when the third team arrived to redo the project fully.

    Second team: was trying to put tiles with cement right on top of the drywall, without right insulation membranes that also help to keep tiles on the walls. They clearly never did tiles before in their lives, as they broke a huge amount of our expensive tiles and installed the rest totally incorrectly (you could not only feel, but clearly see the uneven surface of the walls and huge gaps from the drywall). They also destroyed our deck by cutting tiles without any surface protection, that the company had to fix in the end.

    We had managed to escalate the situation with huge efforts to the president of the company himself, based in LA, as usual management team in LA was not responsive at all - they went totally silent. The whole project had to start from square zero (actually in minus zero, as they had to break everything that was done before first) - almost two months after the start of the project.

    Our project manager - Shelly - was extremely incompetent. Every time the team did not know how to execute on certain parts of the project (walk in shower, built in toilet tank, tiles, insulation, etc.) and would do it wrongly, she would insist that it is exactly the right way of doing it in a very assertive way. At some point they even installed the vanity close to the level of my knees (I am 5.3 ft) and shamelessly asked me to come and confirm it works (all because they did not know how to install the plumbing in the right place). Shelly was also very rude in communication, telling us that it is she, not us, the project manager and we should let her do the project the way she wants. Be aware of all promises she can deliver coming across over confident, however being totally incompetent. I had to personally research construction websites and Youtube channels and send it to the management team together with Shelly explaining why their work was done incorrectly, which was only proved by the third team (with Miguel), who had to redo the whole project from scratch and finally did it well.

    Stay away, if you can! You will save yourself and your family from wasted time, money and stress by not dealing with these people.

    LOST THEIR LICENSE - UNDER INVESTIGATION BY STATE OF CALIFORNIA

    This is by far the most DANGEROUS and DECEPTIVE company I’ve ever worked with. We hired them for a $100k renovation of a few bedrooms and bathrooms. Their work failed city inspections and needs to be re-done. The inspector couldn’t even fit all of the violations on his inspection form.
    After they failed inspection, they abandoned the job, so we now have to sue them to recover enough money to get someone to fix it.
    They endangered our family, causing a part of my infant’s room’s ceiling to fall a few feet away from her crib and leaving exposed live electrical wires within reach of our children.

    Before you start believing all their "5-star" reviews that may not even be true - PLEASE READ the STATE OF CALIFORNIA CONTRACTORS LICENSE BOARD and DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS THIRTY (30) PAGE “Decision and Order” from February, 2018, which took away Goodfellas' license and explained the dangers of hiring them:

    Following this decision, the did not halt their business; they simply changed their company name to “America Home Builders, dba Goodfellas” under a new license number and kept operating.

    In case you don’t have time to read the whole document, here are some excerpts from the Dept. of Consumer Affairs CSLB:

    -“Mr. Nosek and Mr. Assolines’s testimony demonstrated ACD’s business strategy of attempting to avoid legal responsibility for ACD’s work by opening up many businesses with similar names and participating in undisclosed joint ventures, while aggressively suing and placing liens on the houses that ACD had placed in harm’s way by workmanship which materially departed from trade standards.”

    -“Another example of their intimidation strategy is evidenced by their joint decision after the [client] had paid their final balance owed on the project, to falsely claim while threatening legal action that the [client] had an outstanding balance due of over $20,000.”

    -“Their business practices also demonstrated their efforts to avoid legal responsibility for their work by creating numerous businesses and jointly working with other businesses without disclosing the joint venture, and by attempting to intimidate customers, through false representations in letters and manufactured past due invoices, to drop complaints with the Board and police departments and to pay ACD unearned monies.”

    Regardless of what Goodfellas may tell you about the name change, the same people are still involved with the company:

    -MAYA A. (same last name as ELI A, who is listed in the government documents linked above) is still actively involved with Goodfellas. In the dozens of phone calls we had with her, she kept promising us that Goodfellas would pay for the damage to our home. Then she sent their lawyer to give us a low-ball figure that hardly covers any of the damage.

    -CHRISTINA T. (President of “ACD, dba Goodfellas” You can see how they tried to remove her name from the CSLB listing in February of 2017 (see bottom section “Personnel No Longer Associated with the License”)

    As a FINAL WARNING, please look up the license history for their new company, “America Home Builders, dba Goodfellas”. Their new license (#744903) already has multiple complaints against it which are being investigated by the CSLB and several are being referred for legal action as recently as 2019:

    Don’t be fooled by reviews which may not be from real customers. Trust the official State of California government documents that were the result of a long and thorough multi-agency investigation and shows how Goodfellas conducts business and what they have done to the people who got duped into trusting them.

    Speaking from experience, you’ll be left with nothing except construction nightmares, unsafe living conditions, legal bills, and possibly even threats from Goodfellas’ lawyers. Don’t walk - RUN!

    We don't usually write bad reviews. This would be the first... But we are just very upset with this company at this moment. Please note that this review is written two years AFTER the project. We hope that this review will help others.
    This was our first remodeling project that we have ever done in our house and in our life in general. We knew we were overpaying by hiring a company, but we hoped that we are safer with a larger company. Now we are not sure it was a good choice.
    We had no issues with the people who were working in our house. They did well. We had and continue to have (two years later after the job was "completed") a lot of issues with the company and management. Be careful when hiring them. If you are like us, and you do not know much about construction or permits, I would advise against hiring GoodFellas.
    We had issues with the following:
    1) The work was completed one month after the promised date. Granted, the work was extended - we added the floors to the three rooms upstairs. Initially, I asked for an estimate for the floors and said that I wanted to do them later. But I gave in to a strong push from the project manager to do it right away. So I gave in. They still promised that they would finish by the original date in August 2016 because I reiterated many times how important it its to us that the job is finished on time, but they finished it in September 2016, one month later. The installation of the floors could not be the reason for it as it went very fast. They took about 3 days for the floor installation.
    2) I feel that one of the problems with the work was that they did not work every day. There were gaps of 2-4 days between the jobs. When I brought it up at the final inspection, they said that we were not given adequate attention because the project manager was handling two projects at the same time, one in Los Angeles and one in Orange County. One of them was ours. The projects were very far distance-wise, and he could not give enough attention to our home. We felt it was a very weak excuse. After all, they signed up for the job, and there was an end date to the job, which was not met.
    3) During the final inspection, the project manager was not there. I think he was out of town. Someone else came and after I complained about the duration of the project, they said that they would give us the warranty of 3 years compared to the usual 1 year. The warranty was another reason why we hired this company. I asked for some paper that would state it, and the response was that we would be in their database so it is not a problem. (Did I mention this was our first remodel?) Read on.
    4) A month ago, which would be almost two years after the project was completed, we received a letter from the city that our permits were expiring. We called and were told that the permits have never been finalized. So the inspectors would come and tell the contractors what they needed to fix, and I guess after that, they did not call for a final inspection. We paid $1400 for the permits. So as it turns out, the permits have never been finalized. We called GoodFellas, and they informed us that they are now a different company (with the same website, phone number, and the picture of the project manager who did the job in our house.. ), and we are not in their database. However, they asked us to e-mail them a list with the corrections issued by the inspectors. We did that, and we never got the response. So... no trace of our three-year warranty and we cannot finalize the permits because the contractors need to be in the house when the inspectors come. Because the company says that they don't know us anymore (though they wanted an e-mail with the list of corrections...), they are saying that they can't help us.
    *I think I wrote previous reviews for the contractor/company because we were promised a discount if we did that. I did it in the very beginning of the job, and I regret it. Needless to say, our next remodel will be very different.

    I just moved to LA about a year ago and finally purchased a home with my husband! I found GoodFellas on Yelp recently and I am so glad I did! With a baby on the way I wanted to make sure we had the perfect room for him, so we decided to do an addition as well as a bathroom remodel. We are 3 weeks in and everything is going so well and on track, don't want to jinx it, but I am very pleased! Very professional workers and clean up after themselves. So glad we went with GoodFellas!     We did use Goodfellas for a bathroom remodel project we did to our old house. Overall experience was horrible. The crew was not experienced they moved on to a bigger job before they completed ours. So a laborer was left to grout the shower and did not wipe off all of the residue before sealing the tile. When brought this to their attention the relationship became hostile. We ended up agreeing to a discounted price and that end the business relationship. Again, I would not recommend Goodfellas construction.

    Good Fellas exceeded my expectations when it came to remodeling my downstairs bathroom. Their prices were reasonable and we were able to create an easy payment plan. The other contractors that I talked to weren't as knowledgeable about the process of construction they knew how to make the place look better but not about the permit, demo and internal process that goes into home remodeling.

    We are having them come in for a second consultation, if the numbers look right we will surely start our job with them.

    I completed a kitchen and two bath remodel with Matan from Goodfellas about four months ago. After putting the home on the market after the remodel for a great flip I finally have time to sit down to write a review about my experience with goodfellas.
    When we moved to the bay area our real estate agent recommended goodfellas when we mentioned we wanted to spruce up that space and create a more homely look so we can flip the property.
    The home was built in 69 and it hadn't had any home updates since.
    The kitchen was my favorite part about the remodel. We installed custom cherry red cabinets and gorgeous gray quartz countertops. The bathrooms got new vanities and the flooring done for a fresh, clean look.
    Since we were new to the San Jose area and we were planning to sell the home quickly so we didn't bring many of our belongings into the house except for the essentials. The crew was very respectful of our belongings either way and made sure to clean properly after a days work. They stayed on time with the timeline they gave us.
    We were extremely pleased with the remodeling project and it proved to be successful after our quick sale!

    TLDR; BAIT AND SWITCH. Gave assurance that project won't cost more than $130K for 500 sq ft. while doing architecture planning, he says he made a mistake in the estimate and that it would cost $130K for a 330 sq ft addition. Demands me to pay $8000 for the architecture diagrams. Threatens to sue.

    Here's what happened.

    I placed a quote request for a 500 sq ft room addition (master bed + master bath) in buildzoom.com. Since I did not have an approved plan, various construction companies came in to look at the site and gave ball park estimates. From the estimates, it looked like I couldn't afford a 500 sq ft addition. I decided to postpone the addition project until I could save up more money.

    Now comes a representative from Goodfellas Construction. He says a 500 sq ft addition is totally possible for $115K to $130K (plus finishing materials). He asks me to get started with an architectural plan to know the exact estimate (that he assured will be between $115K and $130K and not a penny more than $130K). He also tells me that he will offer free labor for a remodel of our kitchen.

    (Note the only reason I wanted to proceed with the architecture plan was because the (not a cent more than) $130K estimate and the free labor for kitchen remodel. Also note that several other contractors offered to provide me an architectural plan for $4k - $6k. I did not proceed with them because the ball park estimate they gave me was higher than my budget)

    Then I sign an agreement for an architectural plan for 500 sq ft and paid $8000 for the plan. They keep coming back with plans that are only 220 sq ft to 330 sq ft additions.

    Finally they come up with a 330 sq ft addition plus a sunroom (for $31k), remodel an existing bathroom, remodel kitchen and electrical rewiring all for $126K. Although it was I liked it, we signed a contract and I also paid a down payment.

    The sales guy calls me a few days later telling me that a mistake had been made and some "minor" changes had to be made. When I looked at the the changes, there was a 100 sq ft reduction from what we signed on the other day. He says its only a small change and was asking me to agree to this over the phone.

    I called him in person and told him that I did not like this plan. He said the company has 30 days to cancel on the project (to accommodate errors). I believed it to be a genuine error and agreed to cancel. He returned 2 out of the three checks that I had given to him. He said I'll get a check in my mail for the first check I paid as a down payment for architectural design. At that point, I had refinanced my home loan to take extra cash out for this project. Although it was an inconvenience and it cost me a bit, I was not upset. I believed it to be a genuine mistake.

    Now three days later, the guy calls me again telling me that I'll have to pay $8000 for the architectural plan. I was shocked because he talked me into doing the architectural plan by giving me a bad estimate. He says the company will take a "less friendly" approach to get the payment from me.

    I'm feeling very stressed and annoyed with this experience.

    5 months ago we decided to remodel our kitchen, I did my research online and stumbled upon Goodfellas, the project manager that came out was awesome and experienced for a huge project that i was about to undertake I was really looking for someone that I could feel comfortable with because my wife and I are spending a significant amount of money on our kitchen for us.

    They came in and made us feel very comfortable, they really listened and gracefully guided us through our remodeling project. We are really enjoying the new kitchen and our family and friends love it too!

    We had them come to our rental property along with three other contractors in the area to look at the bathrooms.

    Our first interactions with them were very positive they were very easy to talk with and they had great online reviews throughout the web. The person that helped schedule the appointment Celina (?) was vert helpful and asked us all the right questions they were also the only company to let us know that they would test the spaces for the different bacterias (?) before starting the jobs.

    The person that came out was very nice and he had many ideas on what to do with our spaces to make the space efficient for all the people that were going to use it. We also got great amazing design ideas that would work with our existing budget.

    Right now my husband and I are reviewing the proposal sent to us by their team, and going back and forth to get the numbers right. But so far the experience has been very positive and we will be making/siging the contract soon.

    They are definetly a great fit for our needs and we are excited for the next steps!

It was very outdated. I met with Joseph and he had wonderful ideas of how to update my kitchen, including a hide-away trash can, recessed lighting and gorgeous custom cabinets to help maximize my storage space. We went for a minimalist design to avoid it looking overcrowded. I was so happy with the knowledge that goodfellas had to offer. I feel like i got a great price and the quality really can't be beat.     In the middle of our construction, the project manager often to disappears. I pretty much had to be my own project manager and keep track of all the contractors. They weren't just reliable. The quality of the work could have been much better than what we got and I just would not recommend them to anybody. The project was late by almost 8 weeks and exceeded in budget. If they can keep their project manager from disappearing that would be helpful.

    Was shopping around for a garage remodel and came across Goodfellas on yelp. They have a very friendly scheduling department and made setting up an appointment for an estimate a breeze. Unfortunately due to financial issues we are going to have to hold on the remodel but I will definitely be calling this company when the time comes They have good prices and a good reputation.

    Ever since I moved into my home I had been saving up for a new kitchen. I had a rep come give me an estimate and he was honest and genuine about the whole process. You definitely get what you pay for in this business and I wanted a job done right the first time around. My project manager came with his portfolio and the quality was apparent. We created a great design together that fit all my needs. They mostly worked during the day while I was at work myself but every time I came home I was happy to see the progress that was made.     This company exceeded my expectations. I came in wanting to convert an old walk-in pantry into a powder room. I had gotten two other estimates before and they said the project was too small.     We recently completed a full tear-out of my kitchen. This was the second major project I had done with Goodfellas, the first being roofing done about 10 years ago when I first moved into my home. I knew they were still in business because I have seen their signs around my neighborhood a couple times throughout the years. I was pleased to get a next day appointment when I called for an estimate and we were able to start work 2 weeks later. I was guided every step of the way and they were able to mock up two kitchen designs. We weighed the pros and cons of each of them and I'm ultimately happy with what we went with. During the demo and build out of the kitchen the team was careful to protect all the other areas of my house. I was very impressed with the attention to detail. I kept in constant communication with the office staff that made payments and everything else very easy.

    We hired GoodFellas Construction to completely remodel our back house to make it suitable for rental. It was a pretty big project but we felt it would have an awesome pay off. The back house consisted of a bathroom and very large living space. We were able to add a small kitchenette and section off a separate living room and bedroom.     To put it simply, my master bathroom was falling apart. I typed in "best contractors near me" on my google search bar and came across GoodFellas Construction. My parents, original owners of the house hadn't put much work into the home throughout the years. I was looking for an honest company that gave me an affordable price.     I purchased a home at the end of last year. It was a fixer upper, although I was happy with the kitchen it needed a couple other things to be worked on. I hired Goodfellas to do the flooring throughout the house and renovate the bathrooms. For the floor we were able to refinish a lot of the wood work but in some areas we went with a tile that mimicked the appearance of distressed gray wood.     As with many SF homes, they are very outdated. I initially found GoodFellas through their Angie's List account. I wanted to upgrade my kitchen and bathroom to have a more modern look. They had great reviews and stunning past project photos. I called them up and booked a free estimate. They gave me a slightly higher bid than I had expected but I knew I was going to get quality work from this company and I was not wrong. Sometimes when doing these type of projects numbers can be daunting but never skimp out. This company really cares about you as a person, not just making a sale. They even offered to provide me dinner every night during my remodel, if that's not good service, I don't know what is.

    I wanted a new kitchen design in my Beverly Hills Condo. The current version was pretty up to date but I do a lot of cooking and wanted a multi-surface counter top for easier clean up. I found GoodFellas because my neighbors were working with them and they did an impeccable job. They were able to come in for a walk though and I signed up right away because I was itching for a new kitchen. The project manager Ran stopped by with many samples of countertops and walked me through the pros and cons of all of them. We used two different materials throughout the kitchen to be compatible with my constant baking and easy clean up. I had to go out of town during part of the remodel due to an emergency but Ran sent me updates and pictures the entire time. They really care about building strong relationships and do a great quality job.

They handled the great design, and project management for all the projects. The designs do speak for themselves.     I just finished my kitchen & bath remodel with GoodFellas and to put it simply- it went very well.
    I found a deal of theirs through Angies list and thats how I found them.
    Nathan had great attention to detail and was very accommodating throughout. I was ready to be overwhelmed with it all, but everything was handled professionally. I was spared a huge headache by going with this company. Can’t recommend them enough.

    Great job GoodFellas

    Went with GoodFellas to do a kitchen renovation and add a wall as well as extending the overhead to my upstairs loft. There was a fence like unit upstairs blocking off the edge of my loft which I had converted to my room. I extended the overhead over my living room downstairs and to the upstairs and wanted to go with some dry wall to replace the fence upstairs. My main concern going into the project was living in the same space that was being worked on, because I would obviously need use of the kitchen and the upstairs. I felt very comfortable even amongst the construction going on. Ran would tell me ahead of time what time he and his team would be over, and when they would be done for the day. He and his workers were respectful of my home and I truly appreciate that. They worked around my busy schedule and were very tidy throughout. There’s not much else to say except the new kitchen and loft look great.

    From the start I had a good gut feeling about GoodFellas. After the initial meeting with Danny I could tell that he was reliable. We had a pretty big project- master bathroom, downstairs bathroom, and kitchen was all remodeled, and believe it or not it was completed before the set completion date. was great with communicating ever since the project started. Almost every day we were updated with the progress, not just by phone but in person as well. gF was there for us 90% of the time and that’s what really stood out to me. It is easy for contractors to email or call, but to have Danny right there for us ready to answer any questions or give any updates and that’s what really reassured us it would turn out great. I will say the estimate we got was a tad over our budget, but remodeling is something you don’t want to cheap out on you get what you pay for; in the end we couldn’t be happier with our updated home!

    Very professional at all phases of this project. 2 bathrooms were done consecutively and we are thrilled with the outcome. Took 4 weeks to complete both bathrooms . great craftsmanship and skillset.
