  Ugh. I wish we would’ve seen this page a year ago. We met a realtor who swears by Gordon Otten. She uses him for all of her homes before selling (sad for the new owners!) -so we hired him to reline our leaking box gutters. He said he knew how to do them and even though I was incredibly hesitant bc he talked a good game about being “a Jack of all trades” but gave them impression that he was quite ignorant. The snide remarks about how “women don’t know much” and “it’s not like u have anyone else to do the work. I don’t need this work. I’m booked solid. So decide now or I’m leaving” was another red flag. He talked about knowing how to repair the plaster inside that was damaged from the leaking gutter PLUS he said he Remodels kitchens and bathrooms and does tile work and could fix our chimneys (the list goes on). Originally we were going to hire him to remodel kitchen. He asked for $4,000 upfront to do kitchen to buy supplies. Second red flag. (We now know to NEVER EVER GIVE MINEY UNTIL JOB COMPLETED!!)
  We were stupid and said ok. Then covid hit and we couldn’t have him to the house. he responded promptly each text saying it’s ok he could wait. After covid, and not being able to find ANYONE we asked “do u fix gutters?” Well, Jack of all trades said OF COURSE. he excitedly came out and had them re lined in two days. Well HE didn’t do it , His workers (that I never met before ) did it. That’s part of his scam. Then he can say “wasn’t me” and pretend to be angry when it goes bad. Unsuspecting that we’d been duped bc our roof is 40ft high and I’m scared of heights, we Paid in full $7k (plus 4k he already had) only to find our roof leaking in to our house in weeks. He gave 10 yr guarantee so we reached out. He acted perplexed about leak and claimed I was just a neurotic housewife (he’s very male chauvinist) but said he’d fix.
  Sent the same guys out to fix leaking spot. Lo and behold another spot started leaking weeks later. I reached out and he continued saying “don’t stress. 10 yr guarantee. Blah blah. Busy and will come out later” Months went by with a text here and there prompted by me and he said he’d “make right” but only when weather was above 50 and dry. We were mid winter. So I Called another roofer who took video of Otten bad job. There’s Water under all of Otten’s new laid rubber and one spot had 12 ft section not even done plus they left a ball of paper towels/towels the size of a basketball in one corner of our roof. Obviously Otten found that “suckers” live in this house bc he took full advantage. I I texted gordon to let know what the new roofer found and how angry we were. He came out. We teamed in to him and he Said he’d fix it and how surprised he warms etc but no apology at all.
  Said can’t fix until spring or summer and after that POOF now he’s not responding to texts or calls Warm days came with zero word from him. No response at all.
  So I WILL BE PLACING BBB REVIEW ONLINE PLUS TAKING HIM TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT.

  I hired Mr. Otten to repair my roof. He started the job and half way through he asked for full payment so he could finish the job. When I would not pay him he walked off the job and never returned. When I found a company to finish the repairs. The new contractor found many short cuts that were not in Mr. Otten's scope of work. It was a complete ripoff.
  DO NOT USE THIS GUY OFF ANYTHING!!!

  Gordon has to be the worst contractor I’ve ever seen. He had young men install my roof and they didn’t know where to put the nails. After a few years the roof came loose and slid off. Tried to contact him to have a guaranteed job fixed and he turned into a ghost. NEVER hire this man.

  BRICK POINTING AND PORCH WORK

  DO NOT HIRE THIS CONTRACTOR. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. I CAN'T COMMENT ON HIS WORK; BUT I AM NOT SURE IF HE DID WHAT HE WAS HIRED TO DO. I WON'T KNOW UNTIL I HIRE AN INSPECTOR TO EVALUATE. DID NOT SHOW ON THE DATES HE SAID HE WOULD BE AT THE JOB. ASKED FOR PAYMENT 3 TIMES IN 1 1/2 HOURS VIA TEXT AND ONCE HE RECEIVED FINAL PAYMENT HE ASKED ME TO LOSE HIS NUMBER.

  Bathroom Remodel, painting and various repairs

  I hired Gordan and it was the worst experience of my life. The only time the man showed up was to collect a check. The work, in general, is mostly sub-par. Four years after repairing the porch roof and supposedly sealing a gutter I ended up having to hire a real professional to fix the incompetent work done on the roof. Everything Gordon's roofer did had to be totally torn up and redone correctly four years later. The supposed sealed gutter although he charged me to do it it was never touched.
  I had a bathroom remodeled and his guys when they laid the floor didn't install the sub floor correctly which ended up causing the ceramic tiles to break and pull away from the floor. The floor has to be totally torn up and redone to correctly fix the problem. The problem was his workers didn't properly attach the floor to the joists. What was worse was the tile guy who installed the tile was either too stupid or didn't care there was a problem with the floor when he laid the tile as long as he got paid. When I asked Gordon to repaired his shoddy work he told me to sue him. Instead, I contacted the Attorney Generals Office and finally things got done. He did send out two competent guys that did their best to fix the bathroom floor and replace the broken tiles. The only way to correctly fix this floor is to have it torn completely up and have someone who actually knows how to do flooring do the work.
  Just to give you an idea what this guy is like to work with. I had to contact the plumber to get a hold of Gordon to finish my bathroom. They left and told me they would be back in a few days to install the exhaust fan in the bathroom. It was almost six weeks before they had someone come back to finish the work. I had to hound him for weeks to get the work finished.

  When I had this problem with the bathroom floor six months after he did the work, the Gordon would not return my calls for over a year and he hid from me until it got back to him that I was going to file a suit against him.

  I would never wish this contractor on my worst enemy.
  The only reason he has a -B, BBB rating is now he is on the Attorney Generals radar and he has to keep his nose clean. When I was having issues with his work he had an F rating. He went from a decent rating of an A to an F in less than two years. It seems I wasn't the only one at the time that wasn't happy with this man's work.

  As far as the painting goes his guys did a nice job but nothing to write home about. There were imperfections on the walls they didn't fill and sand they just painted over them.
