My experience with Griffin Roofing & Construction was unpleasant and unprofessional after I signed the contract agreeing on job price. I got a quote in June 2020, material was delayed due to pandemic and owner, JJ, canceling my order because the supplier wanted him to pay for it in advance of delivery. I reordered and paid the supplier for materials and it arrived in 4weeks. The work didn't start until December when the temps were colder. Steve, the salesman, brought the subcontractor by to discuss work to be done. Steve neglected to tell the sub door and window trim needed to be widened. When I pointed that out he became belligerent and said I was trying to get something for nothing! Thank goodness I had emails to prove we had agreed on that. They installed vinyl siding and covered soffits, fascia, window and door trim. The job required 2 different sizes of siding, Steve did not order enough of 12' boards but there was excess of the 10'. The job looked pretty good when they finished but obviously not done by experienced professionals, sloppy corners ect. In May when it got warm and the vinyl started to expand the boards started to cup and warp, and continued to do so the warmer it got. ANY vinyl siding contractor knows you have to allow for this when cutting and nailing vinyl siding. I called Griffin Roofing& Construction every week for 4 months and sent photos trying to get them to come back and fix the problem but all I got was excuses and told I was on the schedule. JJ would not respond to my calls. I finally got a response from JJ when I threatened to take legal action when he finally showed up and tried to tell me "vinyl does that!" Vinyl only does that when it's not installed correctly. Supplier agreed it was due to installation. They did finally come and replaced 25-30 damaged boards in October, when the temps got cooler. Luckily I had paid for an extra square of siding in the event of damage so repairs could be made. JJ said he would replace the siding used for repair that It was all paid for at supplier, he did not. I continued to call him, 2 months later he showed up with 6 vinyl board to replace 25/30 vinyl boards. I would have settled for a square, 15 boards. This man has no integrity. It is June now, I currently have 3 newly warped boards that the helpers replaced that came with the subcontractor. Save your money, invest in a contractor that cares with integrity and knowledge.

Our 3 season room addition was started by Griffin Construction in March of 2021 and we are approaching the one year mark since then. The project has been neglected for months at a time and we are unable to obtain a confirmation of when the unfinished items will be completed the most significant, which include:
1. a hole in the outside stucco of our house made by an electrician hired by Griffin Roofing & Construction 8 months ago
2. Exposed wires from a doorbell that was removed 4 months ago by a worker employed by Griffin Roofing & Construction remain on the outside of our home.
3. Installation of EZE Breeze windows. We have paid first deposit on the windows in December 2020 and additional money in September 2021 and now our requests for updates on their timeline are being ignored by multiple team members of Griffin Construction. Over the past several months various team members have promised us updates on the windows, and we have yet to receive one.
4. We had a leak in the new roof that Griffin Roofing & Construction put on our home, and their solution was to simply caulk the holes, which is only a temporary fix and likely to present an additional problem before the 50 year warranty of the shingles is up. In addition, there is water damage in the interior of our home as a result and the company has not yet been to investigate or repair the interior damage. The room was to be “wrapped” in plastic to protect the interior of the room while waiting on the windows. The room was never completely wrapped as promised (the high triangle windows were never covered) which resulted in the ripping of much of the once attached plastic from the structure during several wind, rain and snow storms. The loose plastic whipping around in the wind has caused myself, my husband and kids loss of sleep on several occasions, has resulted in large amount of precipitation to repeatedly soak portions of the interior of the room, and has cause much of the quarter round to already pull away from the wall/become unattached. The flooring we had installed is not designed to be outside flooring and the exposure to the elements (in addition to improper installation) has voided the warranty of the product.
The lack of communication and neglect of this project is unprofessional and not the quality of work we were promised. The initial timeframe for completion was 3-4 months. It has been 5 months since any work has been done on the addition portion of our project.

Permits

On July 15, 2021, we signed 2 contracts with Griffin Roofing and Construction LLC, owned by Javier Jose Andreu ("JJ") and Maytee R. Sanz (possibly husband and wife). These contracts were for 3 projects at our home: (1) a front porch extension and renovation, (2) a kitchen up fit and (3) a sunroom addition which would increase the size of the footprint of the house. We paid an initial deposit plus additional payments as requested when we were presented with invoice from Andreu. As of today, 16 months later, NONE of the 3 projects are complete and Javier Andreu and Maytee Sanz have abandoned our jobs entirely.
The projects were started on 8-31-2021 and were substantially underway with footers, piers, framing, windows, skylights and roofing having been completed BEFORE Andreu applied for a building permit. The permit which he was issued on 1-7-2022 was for a “screened porch” and our project is a 4-season sunroom. We discovered the misclassification on 6-6-2022 and reported it to Javier Andreu. He stated it was a mistake and he would get it corrected. Almost all work stopped at that time and we got many, many excuses over the next 5 months but he would not complete the process necessary to get the correct permit issued
A major concern is Javier Andreu and Maytee Sanz's lack of communication. There have been long periods lasting weeks where we heard nothing from them even after continuously reaching out to them via text, email, and phone. A phone call to them is sent to voicemail, and a text or email is not responded to.
On two occasions we set up meetings through the City of Charlotte Dispute Settlement Program, and although Javier Andreu initially agreed to the mediated dispute resolution, in the end he did not attend the meetings.
On August 18, 2022, we sent Javier Andreu a certified letter expressing our frustrations and giving him a list of 10 items we felt like needed to be addressed to show a good faith effort toward completing this work. As of this date not one item on that list has been worked on.
In our opinions the quality of the work overall is poor, but we had decided that if Javier Andreu completed our projects we would live with the many problems and the poor quality of work just to have the projects done. However he and Maytee Sanz have abandoned our projects.
