    Kitchen and basement remodel
    $30,000

I want to start off by saying this is not the review that I want to write, or thought I would be writing. The owner of this company, Thomas Bush, is a complete scam artist (although calling him any kind of artist is a stretch, he has absolutely no vision or style. He showed me something he was really proud of and it looked like a cheap flipper’s catalog from 2003).

My experience started out great. Thomas is very friendly and personable and we developed a great working relationship. He was suggesting really low end products for my kitchen and basement so we talked about it and I decided to purchase all of the supplies and if he bought little things here and there he’d add them to my total. I paid for all of his labor exactly on the requested schedule through both projects. He didn’t even remotely finish the jobs and ended up ghosting me.

For my basement, he didn’t do my stairs and stairwell as we discussed.

My kitchen is far worse though. I had him turn a door around from the basement area to open in my kitchen as a pantry. He left totally unstable and incomplete shelves in there that have fallen many times and that meant my microwave crashing down a few times. He was also supposed to put flooring in the pantry which was never done. In the kitchen he was to paint over dark gray paint with a specific sheen of white paint that I picked out. He used a flat white and very clearly did one coat which is streaky and already peeling when I gently wipe it with a wet paper towel. It actually peeled the first day I came back into my house. I was replacing four windows, two in my kitchen and two in my basement, and the storm door in my kitchen. I had asked him at least ten times for the dimensions of the windows so I could order them. When he finally gave me the dimensions and the windows came in, he had flipped the length and width which doesn’t allow me to open them at all. When I try they crash down and look like they’re going to fall in. The job he did was just plain sloppy too. I’ve been getting a ton of bugs in because they are just not even remotely sealed properly. There are so many gaps in wood trim pieces and the whole thing just looks crappy. I had him extend counters on one side to make a breakfast bar seating area. Without consulting me at all, he put the pillars to hold the counter directly under where the chairs go so it’s super uncomfortable to sit there and looks ridiculous. This was not at all what we had discussed and I understand that the weight of the countertops made the original plan impossible but he clearly didn’t think about functionality.

When he replaced the windows and door he left a giant pile of trash, rusted nails, and broken glass in my back patio area. He told me he would be over to clean it up and that’s when he just completely disappeared. He told me he didn’t want me to pick up the broken glass out back. He knows very well what my situation is, I’m a single mom with very little time to take care of all of this stuff properly.

I moved out of my house in April for him to do the kitchen. When I left, my house didn’t have a bug issue. When I moved back I was overrun with mosquitoes. I have cameras outside and I could see him and his guys leaving my door wide open all day to smoke directly in front of my open door. My house also smelled like cigarettes when I moved back in. I have had to get an exterminator to try to get this all taken care of and it’s been a nightmare.

I’m hugely disappointed in his work and lack of professionalism. I know for a fact that he’s been avoiding me because I texted him on my work number pretending to be interested in a job and he responded immediately. I have called, texted, and emailed all with no response for over a month. I’m going to have to get a lot of this fixed and it will be at least another $3000 according to my new contractor.

There are plenty of contractors out there. This isn’t the one.
