    Basement and deck

    I have used Guffey Construction for a couple of projects. The first one was for a basement remodel. The second for a new deck. He does excellent work and is very easy to work with. I'll use him again if the need arises.

    We hired Guffey Construction (Chris Guffey) to remodel both of our bathrooms. They did an absolutely beautiful job. Their attention to details and offering solutions to issues as things arose, eliminated the stress often associated with home projects. Chris made sure each evening we had a functioning bathroom during the entire project. The project was on time and on budget. They were very easy to communicate with and it was a real pleasure to have them in our home. We were so pleased with the work on the bathrooms we asked Chris to come back and install luxury vinyl plank in the entire house. He was so accommodating that we didn’t have to empty the entire house. The floors and trim are just great. We expect to work with Guffey Construction again in the near future.

    I've used Guffey Construction for several projects including; building a craft room, crafting a stone fireplace, and building a custom garden shed. Chris is very knowledgeable in all phases of construction, and displays high degree of craftsmanship. I highly recommend him.

    Remodel Half of the House
    $65,000

    I would rate a negative if I could. I would not recommend this business at all. My mother was looking to remodel her home because she is currently living in a home that is only half done (no floors, walls missing, no kitchen, ext). She called Guffey Construction LLC to get an estimate on the remodeling. The owner, Chris, then went ahead and wrote up a contract. My mother was excited to have the work done, as she had been living in her half finish home for over 6 months now. Chris (the company owner) had drafted up an initial contract but then said he would make some changes as the price was a bit high and the house is small. Before Chris had written up a new estimate, my mother had given him a down payment of $4,000 to begin getting applying for city permits. This was months ago. We have not heard anything from Chris since. He does not answer to any calls or texts.

    I breaks my heart to see my mother go through this. This is no way to treat anybody. Especially a person like my mother who would give her right hand for anybody that needed it. The stress that this has caused her is unfair. Besides the loss of her $4,000, she is still living in a home in which she washes her dishes in the bath tub.

    After countless attempts to reach Chris, I have encouraged her to go forth with legal action, as there is really nothing else to do. I would wish that Chris would do the right thing and at least give her the money back. My mother was previously working in the adult foster case business for over 15 years. Working her butt off for every penny that she has. She does not deserve this. Nobody deserves this. I will be doing anything in my power to let people know about this dishonest business and will continue to look for a general construction business with integrity.

    I would like to deeply and sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding and lack of communication between Marcela and I during the course of this project. The deposit was refunded in full and Marcela had no out of pocket expenses for an time spent drawing up plans, trying to find engineers/subcontractors and dealings with the City of Portland. Because of the complexity of the remodel, I had to get engineering support to complete the permits. I take pride in my work and won't just hire anyone, but only those work I know and can trust. Unfortunately I was unable to find anyone to accept the project. When I did find someone, they were 5-6 weeks out. It was also hard to find subcontractors due to prior unfinished work, that had been started years earlier, from unlicensed contractors and no prior permits through the City of Portland. For the 5 months from excepted proposal to full refunded deposit, no construction was able to be started and left unfinished. I take full responsibility for lost communication while Marcela was out of the country and for any missed communication I may have received. We have put a new procedure in place to make sure this will not happen again and we will always stay in full communication. Again I am truly sorry and thank you for reaching out. We wish Marcela the best.

    Working with Chris was easy from start to finish. We remodeled both bathrooms in our home. We got a fair bid from Chris, the work was done in a timely manner and the quality of work was excellent. We had an issue with one of the sub contractors that Chris worked with, but as soon as we voiced the concern Chris handled the situation in a professional way. It was very comfortable having Chris in my home, even with my kids and dog. He was very easy to communicate with, knowledgeable and friendly. We ended the project on good terms, on budget and with the hope that when we are ready to remodel our kitchen he will be the only contractor we contact. Highly Recommend.

    Have not heard back from Guffey regarding finishing the window that has yet to be installed in the garage remodel. Now there is just a gaping hole in the wall. It's been over two months and no return calls or replies to our text messages.

    Completed job on time, and on budget, but didn't put on any finishing touches, so he took a little off the final amount. Job was pretty well done, except some gaps for electrical boxes and door jam not finished out. Also, I had wanted a quote for another job but he never followed through on this.

    Excellent and trustworthy contractor. We hired Guffey Construction to build a mud room in our entrance way. It came in under budget and completed on time. He has since done multiple other projects for us in our Happy Valley, Oregon home. I would recommend him to anyone looking to remodel, room addition or other home projects.
