    Whole House Rewire

Hired Philip to get the job done. He came out and was great. He took notes, asked great questions, and gave a competitive quote. He later told us we needed a whole house rewire and it would be an extra $3,500. I wasn't thrilled, but understood what he was saying and agreed to do it.

Philip and his crew seemed to do a great job with the rough-in electric. Our issue came when we tried to get Philip to come back out for his finish work. Philip told us he would be out at the end of the week and it would take 2-3 days. With that information, we scheduled work giving his team a week to get done—because life happens.

Once he finally came out—a week late—his team took 6 working days to get things mostly done. We told him there were some things that still needed to be done, and he said he would be back on Monday to finish up the last couple of things, but he wanted paid.

After we spent the weekend checking to make sure everything was working properly, we discovered why he was in such a hurry to get paid. The work was garbage. I think he sent a crew of newbies to do work he couldn't be bothered to be present for—because we never saw Philip at the house until it was time to be paid.

The list of things that needed to be done was lengthy.

Electrical work that needs to be finished or fixed (before remainder of the electric invoice can be paid in full):
~Basement bathroom vanity light still needs to be installed
~Guest bedroom ceiling fan is missing the receiver to work with the remote
~Living room ceiling fan isn’t connected to the living room light switch (or any light switch)
~Dining room ceiling fan doesn’t work at all (I even replaced the batteries with brand new Energizer batteries I bought today)
~There is no outlet for the garbage disposal
~3 lights switches need to be added in the basement at the lighting areas we spoke about (right at the lights, so they can be shut off, even when the rest of the basement lights are on)
~The light globe on the master bedroom ceiling fan is broken (cost = $ ??)
~1 of the light switches at the 2-way light switch in the master bedroom doesn’t do anything
~The master bedroom ceiling fan blades only come on with remote—they won’t turn on when the light switch turns the fan light on
~1 of the light switches at the front door 4-way switch doesn’t do anything
~Only one floodlight is actually on and working
~Main floor bathroom outlet needs to be GFCI
~Outlet by the washer in basement bathroom has old outlet with new cover.
~Not very many outlets in the basement. There should be at least 2 more outlets, according to the 12 foot rule.

House wiring in the basement is messy and unprofessional. It needs to be fixed as well. See comments below.

~The new wiring for the house is messy and looks dangerous and unprofessional.
~It’s not tight to the rafters, and not all stapled to the rafters or threaded through the rafters.
~There’s multiple spots that have—up to 12" below rafters—extra slack and are hanging too low throughout the basement.
~Numerous spots where wires go at weird angles or make weird loops.
~Old wiring was left in the rafters (we had to pull some out ourselves today).
~The wires coming up out of the electric box are messy, not labeled outside of the electric box, and go at weird angles.

As you can see, this dude didn't want to do the work necessary, but wanted paid. I wouldn't hire this team because an adequate professional isn't present.

The work went well, I had a Generac installed at my home. Hamill electric is very reliable and professional.
