STAY AWAY FROM HANDY TAMER!!!!!!! This was by far the worst experience I could have ever imagined. This project was supposed to be a quick 2 week project and it ended up taking 6 weeks and I was left with work that I had to have redone which cost me more time and more money.
I hired Handy Tamer to tear a few walls down, build a few non load bearing walls and paint some stripes on 3 walls. When they took the job they said it would take 1.5 to 2 weeks MAX but put 3 weeks on the contract just to be safe. All-in-all it took 6 weeks to complete my job. This overage in time cost me around $10k in overhead. The quality of work was about as bad as it could get. I had to have them rebuild some 1/2 walls because they could not cut 2 studs the same length. They said it was my flooring but when I checked their work I found that there was up to 1/2 inch difference in stud length, the wall was not level at all, it was all over the place.
The walls I had them build are not level either and unfortunately I did not catch this until it was too late so now I have a wall with a serious lean. In these walls they built 2 frames for doors but unfortunately for me they built them too small. No standard size door would fit, I had to cut down my doors and jambs to attempt to get them to fit. After hours of time I was able to get 1 door to work but not the other because the door frame was not square, go figure. The width at the bottom was narrower than the width at the top so the door would not fit. They left NO wiggle room at all. I had to hire another contractor to come in and fix this mistake.
The stripes I had them paint were HORRIBLE!!! The lines were wavy and did not even line up with each other, the lines were smudged and not crisp at all, the paint only had 1 coat on it if that, some areas still had primer exposed. The paint was so bad that I had to have it completely redone.
The walls that were built were built on carpet and they cut the carpet back too far, so far that when base is installed you see a gap in the carpet. They also destroyed the seams of the carpet and frayed it to a point that it cannot be fixed. When they sprayed texture on my walls they left overspray everywhere. I found overspray 15 ft from where they were working, on my HVAC ducts, fire sprinkler lines, ceiling, stair handrails...EVERYWHERE!!
They are terrible with your money too! Ken approached me one day asking me to give him part of the final payment I owed them because he 'ran out of money'. WOW!
On 2 different occasions, at least that I knew about, they though it would be a good idea to bring their kids to a construction site and let them run around and play at the site while they were working. This was a lawsuit waiting to happen when 1 of them got injured.
