    rebuild after house fire
    $200,000
    340 days
    crappiest contractor ever

Mr JJ who owns Hanel’s construction should be ashamed of himself. He promised me in front of witnesses that he would take care of me in the rebuilding of my house after our horrible house fire. He said that it would take 90-120 days depending on the weather, and I gave him over half of the cost upfront on 17 Dec 13. I waited all winter long, and since it was a bad winter I understood not having his employee’s being exposed to the elements. In April the trusses finally were ordered and delivered. I was told that the building would really take off then. I gave him more money and didn’t see anyone on my property again until mid may. They got the framing up and then all work stopped again for another 2 weeks. By beginning of June I was starting to get irritated since I had been told me in April that I would be able to move in at the end of June, and there were still no walls inside the house. I talked to the manager Tom about what was holding the progress back, and was told it was the electricians fault as he had went on vacation for two weeks. I asked what does the electrician have to do with siding and roofing my house? Mid June I was told by the people that owned the house I had been living at that it had sold and that I needed to be out 1 Aug 15. I notified Hansel’s construction on the 19th of June and was assured it would be done by then. Shortly after I went to Menards with a member of Hansel’s staff for my kitchen cabinets, flooring, bathroom cabinets, and sinks etc. I made sure I took pictures of what I ordered and the price of what I ordered, and got a copy of the invoice for the kitchen cabinets. After subtracting what it was going to cost against what I had already paid for the allowances I knew I was way under budget, like 16,000 under. In July it was definitely apparent that my house wasn’t going to be done by the 1 Aug deadline and I repeated called Hansel’s office to be told that they were on another job and not to worry because, the house would be done by that time. Needless to say it wasn’t done by then. Their solution was that they were going to move me FREE of charge, and pay for my lodgings at Maple Manner (a local retirement center). After the move all work stopped on my house again, after that I refused to pay Hansel’s any more money and told them they would get the rest after they were done with my house. After a month and a half I did end up paying them against my better judgment because I had received a letter from my insurance company saying they were going to cancel my insurance in I was not in residence by that time. I talked to JJ in person recording the conversation and had a witness present where he promised my house would be done by 1 Oct even if he had to come over and work on it himself. Right after that I found out that their FREE moving me and paying for my lodgings actually meant they sent the bill to my insurance company behind my back. When the flooring was installed they then demanded that I pay them another 19,000, and when I confronted them about the extra money from my allowances, everyone acted like they didn't what I was talking about. So after moving into my house on 1 Oct 14, it is now May 15 and I still don’t have gutters on my house. I am still waiting for the rest of my kitchen cabinets that he has promised to bring over 4 times and to have the kitchen cabinet door fixed on the cabinet door that one of his guys went back and canceled my order and when he reordered my cabinets again ordered the wrong sized door. It looks like a hobbit door it’s that small. I can’t even put my pans through the door they don’t fit. All of the hardwood floors in every room of the house are coming apart. There are hundreds of dings and scratches to the paint on my walls that were supposed to be fixed, and haven’t. I am missing the rear window well of my house because they removed it to take out the cement of my basement floor that needed to be replaced, and never replaced the window well. They never sealed the windows in the basement and took out the old insulation out and never replaced it with new stuff. There are no gutters installed on my house, siding litters my yard, and the shingles flap in the wind. They haven’t had the electrician come back to finish installing the lights back into my safe room, and the downstairs hallway. They need to add support to the floor joists where they moved my steps to the upstairs back and where they expanded my closet floor, right now it feels like I am on a trampoline when I step the floor in those locations
