    Central Air Installation
    $7,500

    A+ work, very knowledgeable owner/operator.

  • August 7, 2015

I hired this contractor to install central air conditioning into my house. He walked through my house and reviewed everything. My house had duct work already installed so he said it was an easy job. He ended up charging me $6,000 just to install the system into my house. I hired him, and after he installed the system there was not air conditioning on the second floor.

So I call the firm, and then he indicates that I probably do not have enough airflow. You would think that he would have pointed this out to me when walking through my home before taking on the job that my duct work would not support the central air conditioning.

So I then hired him to correct the duct work issue. He told me from the beginning it would be a one day job. He ended up coming to my house 4 times and cancelling 6 times. It has been over a month and I still do not have any air conditioning on the second floor. He would always come late to the job, and also unprepared. He constantly would forget to bring the correct material and tools. Due to this he would then need to come back and extend the project. On the 6th time he cancelled, I fired him.

I had another HVAC guy come into the house to review everything. The HVAC individual did not want to take the job to finish the project because he feels that it will not work. He also said that the central air conditioning that he installed was too large for 1286 square foot house. He installed a 4 ton unit on my house. He also indicated that Hargotech's work was sloppy. He indicated that the coil was too large that was installed so Hargotech then cut it to make it fit. You would think they would have installed the correct sized coil. He also indicated that you are not supposed to install flex piping when it is exposed to people, which Hargotech did.

I then told him the price that I was charged for the just the air conditioning which was $6,000, and I then learned that the project should have been done for no more than $5,000. So essentially I found out that I overpaid for subpar work.

I then called Hargotech furious that he cut up my hardwood floors, new carpet and ceiling for something that would not work. He defended his position and wanted another $1,500 to finish the job of the ductwork. Once again, this pricing was absurd for just a return and hvac running into the attic.

You would think he would have done it for free or charge a minimal amount considering that he should have informed me prior to installing the air conditioning that I would have issues with my airflow since he did a walk through. I will never use this contractor again. That is my story and it is up to you if you want to hire him or not.
