    Bathroom remodel
    $3,500

We requested a quote for a bathroom remodel on 07/13/2022 and agreed upon a start date of 07/25/2022. Half of the agreed upon price was paid up front as a deposit.

Harry did not start the project until about two weeks later. He showed up and did some minor work with pipes in the basement, and then repeatedly had back-to-back excuses ranging from being sick with COVID to family emergencies, and did not come back to continue working on the bathroom for about a week. After this, the work progressed extremely slowly and was poorly done. He would arrive to the job site around 10:00am and leave by around 2:00pm (this was confirmed by several people who observed him coming and going).

His work was very sloppy, and he constantly made a mess throughout the entire house. He mixed grout and cut materials on our patio furniture (the cushions are now permanently stained), went into bedrooms without permission, and even went into the kitchen cupboards to take a protein shaker cup to use to mix some sort of grout or mortar (unacceptable to use our kitchen utensils for non-food safe use).

He frequently made design decisions without consulting us as clients. For example, we had purchased specific tiles and stone flooring for our new shower, but came home one day to find that he had installed a shower pan. The stone that was specifically purchased for the shower floor remains unused. We also requested a custom rectangular shower niche to be incorporated into the design of our new shower. Instead, he purchased a pre-made square niche and installed it off-center. He also purchased a brushed nickel shower head without consulting us, which now does not match the other black fixtures in the bathroom.

He also placed the smooth wall tiles on the floor. When this mistake was called to his attention, he became extremely angry, used vulgar language, shouted, and acted extremely unprofessionally. Similar tantrums and outbursts happened multiple times over the course of the project. He was completely unwilling to cooperate or fix mistakes that he made even after he was told our plans for the materials we purchased. Similarly, he refused to change the pipes for the toiled and shower, despite our request multiple times.

In addition, neighbors reported seeing him drinking beer on our porch in the middle of the work day.

He finally "completed" the project over a month later. We purchased a new bathroom ceiling vent, but Harry then said did not know how to install it despite it being written in the contract. We will have to hire someone else to install it now at an additional cost. Harry did not put grout on all the tiles, and made very poor decisions about the order of completing tasks. He installed the toilet and bathroom sink and vanity before adding tiles and grout, and now the tiles behind the toilet do not have any grout. Tiles along the walls are crooked and caulking job is poorly done. The new cabinet that we purchased for above the toilet looks like it's several years old because it is now so banged up from the sloppy job he did installing it. He also installed the light fixture above the vanity upside down.

Harry has also requested additional money be paid halfway through the project despite the work being poorly done, and despite the deposit covering half of the total cost. We found this request to be a bit strange.

Overall, we would NOT ever recommend Harry's Home Remodeling to anyone. We regret hiring him and wish we could get our money back. At this point, we are considering hiring a new contractor to completely redo the job from scratch.
