Wish I could upload severely cracked pictures for you to see what $20,000 and a worthless guarantee get you. All distress occurred within months of the project completion. And it is worse than that! Tip of the iceberg for sure!
You deserve to know about the low quality of Hastings and Son’s Concrete Company. Hopefully this will save you the frustration I have experienced, not to mention the loss of 1000’s of dollars. I typically don’t write negative reviews as I am very patient and forgiving. This is my 1st written public negative review.
My project was a driveway project replacing multiple sections costing ~$20,000. If your project entails anything more involved that a small simple small flat concrete job, do not use Hastings! Don’t be fooled by their words, by their sales pitch, by their empty promises!
To say this is a difficult company to work with cannot be overstated. Communication is the first and foremost disaster. RATING - 0: Numerous (scores) unreturned calls, broken commitments, and disrespect are more that the norm for Hastings, those traits are their 1st priority and they excel at them. These characteristics were there is spades from the beginning of the project, during the project, and the follow-up.
Expertise is the 2nd disaster. RATING - 0: They seem to know how to “do concrete” jobs and will say all the right things about a concrete construction project. However, their actions in executing the job are 180 degrees from their stated process. From demolition of existing work to be replaced, to the foundation of the new concrete, to the selection of the concrete, to the laying and finishing of the new concrete….all of these were executed different than they stated they would do.
Quality is the 3rd disaster. Rating - 0: They say the proofs in the pudding. Well, the pudding cracked a lot. Within months. I am not referring to stress cracks because I know that concrete stress cracks are not uncommon and are usually benign. I am referring to numerous major corner cracks, a whole section broke into multiple pieces and pitting on numerous sections. These are the very types of distress I contracted them to fix. They replaced significant cracked concrete with significant concrete cracks.
Customer Service was the 4th disaster. Rating – 0: Their promises were not kept; their personnel were not capable of resolving issues and their President would not give the time of day to a friend let alone return a phone call to a paying customer. Initial promises to make it right were nothing more than their devious marketing approach to secure the job. Even weak band aid solutions suggested after the shoddy job was completed were only verbal ploys to continue the stall tactic to live up to their worthless guarantee. Not weeks but months and now almost a year of excuses and avoidance on their part to fix their shoddy work. Avoidance and stall techniques are another two traits they excel at.
They fooled me big time (not to mention cost me big bucks) …don’t let them fool you. I can hear them laughing all the way to the bank. I am not holding my breath but maybe one day they will keep their promises and I can update this review with the results.
