Steve gave an estimate of $4,895 without specifying the size of the furnace to put in a new furnace using existing ductwork & putting in two cold air return vents. They sent 2 young men to do the install, I noticed it was a 70,000 BTU furnace, which is not big enough for a 2,184 sq ft home (not counting the basement), so told the young men to take it back & not do the install until things got straightened out. Due to our cold climate in Michigan (zone 4) would require 45 - 50 BTU per square foot. Doing the math, minimum would need 98,280 BTU, max 109,200 BTU. When I talked to him on the phone about it, he said he's been doing this for 30 years, and I was counting the basement. I said, a house 78' x 28' = 2,184 sq ft is not counting the basement. Then I asked him how much did the 70,000 BTU furnace actually cost not counting labor. His response was "We're not going to go there," refused to give any details about charges, and stated he'd get me a refund. That was on 10/19/20. About a week & a half later, he wouldn't answer my call, so I called the office & got some line of BS about they can't pay me my refund of $4,000 until their accountant shows up to do it & he only goes to their office once per month. At first, she said the accountant went there the 1st week of November, then the 2nd time she stated it, she said the 1st or 2nd week of November. When you're telling the truth, the story doesn't change. I priced some 70,000 BTU furnaces 95% efficiency online (dealers usually get them cheaper), and the most would've been around $1,000... Buyer BEWARE!!! DEMAND details and a complete estimate laying out all fees involved.
