Hellyer Custom Builders and Dave Hellyer DID NOT follow through on their promise to us. They underbid the project, over promised completion time, and did not provide the highest quality subcontractors, as they said they would. Dave Hellyer claims to have lost tens of thousands of dollars, even though we had to add tens of thousands of dollars just to complete the project. HCB admits to making several sizable mistakes, but refuses to compensate us for them. We are in the process of putting a law suit together against HCB and Dave Hellyer. He gave us all sorts of promises, along with his firm handshake, but this did not translate into quality and integrity. We have been in our house for over a year, but still do not have a certificate of occupancy, and our permit has been open for almost 2 years. We have gotten fines from the county, and he will not do the punchlist items until we give him more money. NOTE: Have an attorney go over the HCB contract carefully before signing a contract with HCB.
