A client I serve had a sewer line collapse on one of their rentals. I hired the crew of Hero Services to help explaining that this was an emergency and that we really needed to be very Time aware on this project. Hero agreed they asked for a 50% advance then proceeded to push off the job. At one point they delivered a backhoe, only to come the very next day bring the backhoe to another job and finish the rest of the week on that job whilst ignoring the one that I had hired them for. After delaying the project more than a week they sent an addict out to operate the backhoe. (No exaggeration here I’ll include pics of the dirty needles he left on my job!) at this point I took over the labor myself. Spent seven days straight 15 hours a day performing the work that Heroes crew wasn’t sober or even present on site enough to actually do. As I’m getting to the final 3 lifts (about 36”) of backfill I throw a Hail Mary and text hero for a dump trailer to get the asphalt debris and large boulders off the site. Fred Bronsema called me and said he has five guys on the way and they’ll get that all filled in. I unwisely gave in to the offer. (In my defense I’d been working over 12hrs a day for ten days on this all alone!) through the course of their backfill extravaganza the Hero crew nearly took down a carport and even after receiving requests in writing to remove boulders and debris from the site, I found them hidden in the backfill! So now I’ve got to uncover 36” of backfill across 70’ and examine all of it for the debris and boulders hidden there against code and my specific requests. So the moral of the story is don’t use Hero Services. Question of the day who’s a good construction lawyer to hire and recuperate the 50% plus damages on this?
