I contracted Hidden Coast Home Repair to repair my roof, after Derek did a decent job of fixing a roof leak and repair wall and window damage. He did cut corners (literally) on the wall by placing molding where he should have completed the drywall. However, he gave me a great price and seemed trustworthy.
Derek began sealing my roof after repairing it. He then "went away" for an entire summer. When he "came back" he began completing the roof sealing. He said it was completed. And I began to contract him on another roof project which a provided a $1,000 deposit.
After a miscommunication led me to fire him, and for the next project, I hired a new contractor. I told him to keep the deposit because he revealed himself to be a combative individual. And I suspected he already spent the deposit when he disappeared over the summer. When he returned, he expressed concerns about his financial state, and thus seemed to have no means of returning my deposit. I sadly let it go.
The new Contractor went up on the roof to discover that Derek never finished the roof sealant work, and took photos.
Do NOT hire Hidden Coast Home Repair or Derek Stern:
* Significant Delays (disappeared for months)
* Quick to jump to anger; combative
* Did not complete work that was already paid for
* Was not fair and did not practice goood business by returning the deposit anyway
* Lied about completion of work
It is a real shame because Derek seemed like an amazing guy! I realize now I was conned out of completed work, and thus money.
