As Owner of multiple Pure Fitness locations in Southern California I recently began constructing my flagship facility at the Westgate Hotel in Downtown San Diego, Ca. This was an ambitious undertaking that included several unique features including a 75’ stainless steel swimming pool and two spas on the second floor and third floor terrace of the property.
After realizing our initial selection of pool contractor was not suitable for this specialized pool, Mr. David Hobbs was invited to a staff meeting to make a presentation to the project General Contractor, architects, hotel management and myself. We all were impressed with his detailed presentation and supporting documentation and assigned Dave the task of swimming pool Project Manager.
Mr. Hobbs went right to work on value engineering and design. He removed our original stainless steel manufacturer and brought on his team of professionals from Natare Corporation, a world renowned stainless steel pool manufacturer. This tactic alone saved the project over $50K. New features such as a jack support system that would allow the pool to be adjustable in the event of building movement or settling were added at Mr. Hobbs’ advisement.
Difficult engineering issues were resolved. Mr. Hobbs interacted effortlessly with City and County permitting departments to keep the project moving. The logistics to the phases of construction under his leadership were accomplished well above our expectations. This included traffic control, craning operations in a busy downtown environment, tradesmen scheduling and safety compliance.
Dave Hobbs was an integral component of the project above and beyond his assigned scope. He offered solutions to pool decking and concrete placement for a basketball court and handicap ramps as well as a unique running track that was installed around the pool perimeter. Further, he assisted in planning and construction of a remarkable fountain at our lobby entrance.
In the years I have known and worked with David Hobbs I have found him to be a man of integrity and compassion for his profession. I would highly recommend him and his company to anyone and will certainly employ his services at my future facilities.
