The contractor, Jason Kelly, took too long to finish the kitchen upgrades, three weeks to just paint and replace cabinet hardware. The countertops were not addressed at all, but included in the estimate. Jason wanted a $1000 every Friday for as long as it took to finish. I had purchased all materials for the kitchen. So, for $2700 out of pocket, of an estimate of $3100, I got no countertops. The paint job was okay. But Jason spent a large amount of time in the bathroom (30 minutes at a time, sometimes twice a day or more, then there was a lunch break. He didn’t show up usually until 9:30 or after, and left about 3-3:30pm. That’s about 4.5hrs. a day. My kitchen was a big mess all this time and still is. I expected the mess, but dragging this job out, became a problem. He even brought his son with him one day, so he could leave early to take him to the doctor. He didn’t work at all for 3 days and had short days at least twice, not counting the bathroom breaks. I was concerned about the final costs since he wanted $1000 a week labor and seemed to be purposefully dragging the job out.
