I am almost broke after Steve Houran, aka Hitham Abuhouran of HouranUSA basically stole over $140,000 from me through fraudulent work, and then walked away. If anyone wants his name PM me. I am looking for a lawyer who will take the case on contingency. I may have another renovation victim of him who will join the case. I know another lawyer who won an eerily similar case against the same contractor in 2018, and said they would provide paperwork if asked.
Here is their case summary against HouranUSA:

This was the house I have dreamed of moving my kids into for over 2 years. It was supposed to be done by March at the latest, which is in black and white in the contract. Now, I don't know what to say to my kids, since the new GC has so much to redo, and I don't have the money to complete the house the way I had hoped. Just to list a few of the issues, he only took out a permit for kitchen remodel even though the contract was for a full gut renovation, interior and exterior, of a 3 story house, for $327,000. By the time I stopped him, he had already put up sheetrock in the bathrooms, even though NONE of the plumbing had been inspected. I have now found out he did not even have a licensed plumber doing it. 90% was done wrong and is being replaced by my new GC. The exterior work was done so unprofessionally that there are gaps everywhere. You can see light coming in from the outside in many of the walls, even though the planking has been installed. Planks are falling off already because the nails used were not long enough. He never had the exterior foam board inspected. He poured the cement incorrectly for the French drains in the cellar. He never got a framing inspection. He never submitted complete plans to the bldg dept. He never submitted a survey even though the rear shed was being removed. He left all of the cement and dirt from the cellar work all over the yard. I was fined thousands of dollars by the City for the way he left the site during the renovation. He installed windows in the wrong locations and refused to fix it. He tried to get away with stuffing R19 insulation, specified in the contract, into 3-1/2" depth walls. He installed doorways too low, not accounting for the new floor level. 50% of the batt insulation is installed incorrectly. He installed much cheaper windows than specified and refused to discuss where to apply the difference. He installed wood exterior trim around all of the windows even though PVC was specified. They let all of the old windows smash to the ground all around the house and did not clean up the broken glass. I will be picking up shards for years and how can I let my kids run around the yard now ever without shoes on? I could go on but you get the idea. It was total anarchy at the site every day. Zero management, zero planning, zero coordination. All the things you sign a GC to do were not there. I used to love renovating. Now I can barely control my anger every time I think of the situation he has left me in.
