Work was completed less than a year ago, and this post just scratches the surface of the aftermath. Not only did the price quoted double, but additional work was completed without prior approval from the homeowner. Hardwood floors were installed improperly, and now 1/4" gaps between boards exist throughout the house, and the entire floor has shifted. The only remedy is to completely replace the floors which are less than a year old. The pantry shelves are collapsing. (Remember, this is a custom job by someone who prides himself in his carpentry skills.) Exterior work has been held together with caulk instead of properly fastened. The result is it needs to be reworked. Decking is uneven. Electrical wiring and insulation were left hanging down under the crawl space, and the vapor barrier was left dish elves and torn. Cinder locks were left partially blocking the venting in the crawl space. Plumbing drains were improperly installed, needing to be reset, and tiled floors were installed unevenly. Windows were also installed backwards. Needless to say, this home was left in far worse shape after Mr. Hughes and his expert employees were finished with this home. I would have been happy to include pictures of his handiwork, but have no way to do so on this site. His work and ethics were completely misrepresented and intentionally misleading. If you need work of any kind completed on your property, run from this "contractor".
