Replaced floor of 2-car garage and the cement apron in front of the garage as both were sinking in spots, and replaced the asphalt driveway and lined with pavers.
We had a couple of other contractors come in and say that they would cut a certain section of the floor out and pour the cement...but, didn't really go into how they would do it and why, even though we asked. They quoted us a price for this between $2,500 to $3,000, and they would not do the asphalt driveway.
Tom (IBD) came in and looked at the job and gave us a detailed explanation of how and what they would do to remove and replace the floor in our garage. He explained how they would drill rebar every 3 feet into the foundation, replace fill where needed, tamp it down, lay the wire mesh, and pour and hand smooth out the cement. He also looked at our asphalt driveway, and explained how he would tear it out, lay new RCA where needed, tamp it down, and pour/smooth the asphalt...he also gave the driveway a little more pitch to the street so that the water would runoff better than our existing driveway and not cause pooling on the driveway. Was he the cheapest choice??? No, in fact he was the most expensive. But, we liked how he explained what he would do, and he was going to do both the driveway and the garage.
His crew came in and had the driveway torn up and one side of the new paver boarder done on the 1st day, plus had the holes drilled into the foundation for placing rebar every 3 feet, and started on the garage floor removal. On the 2nd day, the paver boarder on the other side was laid, and the whole garage floor demo'ed and removed. They added fill and tamped down, added the rebar, did the mesh netting, and poured and smoothed out the cement floor. All in this over only 2 days. Because of the high heat and humidity the garage floor cured slowly, but looks fantastic.
As far as the driveway completion, that was not done for almost 3 weeks later. The first week to 10 days we had to drive on it to help tamp down the RCA which is normal...but why it took an additional couple of weeks longer was the heavy rains that we had over that time. But, once it was done and the driveway dried out, Tom's crew came in last week and poured the driveway. In fact we were not home when they came in to complete the job, and Tom texted me pictures of the progress of the work (from adding additional RCA, tamping it down one final time, and pouring the asphalt). I didn't ask him to text me pictures, but I love that he did. It looks great too. Still haven't driven on it because with the extreme heat we had over the week, it would not harden that quickly, and Tom said to give it at least a week before we drive on it.
I would recommend Improvements by Design to anyone (in fact I have given his number to a friend looking to replace a deck). They do all sorts of improvements...bathrooms, kitchens, outdoor living spaces, and many other home improvement jobs. I have seen pictures of their work and would use them again for other projects that I have been thinking of doing.
