From the beginning the contract was for $15,000 for renovating my interior stairs and building an outside deck.
As soon as he started working on the interior stairs I noticed he is inexperienced & will be incapable of finishing both jobs.
We renegotiated and he went on to do the interior stairs.
The following are only few examples of how poor the job performance of Innovative Home Design was;
Reasons for termination :
1- He ordered the wrong size starer step.
2- He informed me that his supplier didn’t deliver the riser for the starter step & he has to fabricate it on site which is several 100’s of dollars less in material price & quality & pocketed the money
3- He cut the left post incorrectly and installed. He left it in an unusable, unstable, and unsafe state
4- Due to ordering the wrong size of the starter step he was not able to install 10 white spindles, 5 on each side of the post, which were the main feature of this stair renovation job.
5- Due to the wrong measurement, drilling for the spindles was done incorrectly then was filled with putty which left the newly bought railing unstable & looking deformed.
Further more :
*He ordered Pine trims & told me they are Oak
*He left my garage in a state of disarray
*He left sawdust everywhere in garage
*He left the old railing laying on the floor
* He disposed of all the old building material into my garbage can
According to the contract we signed he received %85 out of the fee agreed upon. He kept insisting on taking the bulk of the money upfront and at one point when I tried to negotiate to hold off paying the balance till the final day he threatened to leave in the middle of the project. I had to give him more money to install the starter step. when it turned out to be the wrong size & it was installed incorrectly, I FIRED him.
I took over 30 pictures as a proof of installing the wrong size step and how sloppy his work was.
I had to hire a real contractor which will charge me several thousands of dollars to correct the damage & finish the job.
This was a very bad experience.
INNOVATIVE HOME DESINE INC. SHOULD NOT EVEN GET ONE STAR
BUILDZOOM should not recommend INNOVATIVE HOME DESIGN INC. to anyone.Response from Innovative Home Designs Inc May 22, 2018We at Innovative Home Designs strive to please any and all customers. We do apologize for not satisfying your demands. In response to everything, we do feel that we put our best efforts in pleasing you but unfortunately there is disagreements. From the start the contract was $15000 because we also were designing a deck, which you refused to pay for after the contract was in place. We then removed the deck due to non payment for the design, plans, and permits. The contract was reduced down to $5000. After all of the numbers talk we discussed timeline. We have explained the importance of recognizing that the holidays are approaching, suppliers cannot control shipping time. We would do everything in our power to have the projected done as quickly as possible. The final talk before any work began was materials, which we have shown you all material selections prior to install for your approval, which you gave. The species of the wood was Oak and we also showed you a piece cut in half to show that its a full piece of oak, not just a laminate. During the course of the job you were micromanaging our crew and were directing them to do other tasks that was not part of our scope of work, which is fine but resulted in change orders which again you refused to pay. We did everything you wanted with out question and without being paid on time in accordance with our contract. Towards the end of the job you and I talked that a temporary riser would be in place and that the job in not completed, it was during the holiday weekend that you had informed us that you did not want use returning. We were never given the opportunity to complete an unfinished job which resulted into all of the flaws that you have pointed out. This also prevented us from removing the 16 foot long railing that we left in the garage with your permission until the job was completed. Speaking of the garage, you had given us access to set up shop during the work. We had explained that it would get dusty but after the job is completed we go in and thoroughly vacuum and wipe up all the dust. We pride ourselves on craftsmanship cleanliness and perfection. This experience for us as well was bad but a learning experience. -

Couldn’t have been better! Overall it was a wonderful experience-work was done in a very timely manner and the end product exceeded my expectations. Jason was flexible, reliable, and a pleasure to work with. I would recommend him and his team to anyone looking for a great service and quality work.

I left a family event early to be home for an estimate. They didn't show up. When I texted them they said that they were sorry that nobody called me but the owner is dealing with a personal issue. When you run a business, you still need to let clients know when you aren't showing up, regardless of your situation. And if you can't personally contact people, then you'd better have someone who can. But their time is apparently more valuable than mine.

Jason and his team were awesome from start to finish. He came over more than once to discuss the contract and design with us, including having a 3D rendering of what the space would look like. He was responsive, clean, and efficient throughout the entire process, and even brought in a cleaning crew at the end to help with the construction dust that had accumulated. He did beautiful work and had a great eye for what would make sense in a tight and difficult space. The price we agreed on in the beginning was the price we paid at the end, no hidden costs despite a few things changing throughout the process. I cannot say enough good things, and should we need any more work done in the future we will definitely be going back to him.

We tried repeatedly to work with Jason and Innovative Home Designs. We had wonderful meetings to start and seemed to be on the same page. We wanted him to renovate our kitchen and bathroom as well as do additional upgrades to our condo. We were willing to hand over a deposit almost right away to get started. We waited over a month for him to give us a proposal (after asking for it MANY times). The proposal was not well done and when we asked him for more information he ignored us. After a couple of weeks he told us he was too busy to do our job in the summer and would be willing to do the renovations in October. We spoke with him again at the end of July and expressed our interest in getting put on his calendar, receiving a full proposal, and giving him a deposit. We finished the call feeling optimistic and were promised to be given the proposal 3 days later................and we are still waiting. Never heard from him again! Thank god we found a reliable contractor and designer and were able to get the jobs completed!
