In an an attempt to skirt the negative media surrounding Lyscos, Adam Joyce and his brother Travis Joyce have started a new company called Interstate Ventilation.

NORWALK -- Two Long Island brothers caught in an April chimney repair sting in Wilton were arrested again, this time for allegedly ripping off two New Canaan residents who paid them a total of $6,000 to repair their supposedly damaged flues.

Adam Joyce, 26, and Travis Joyce, 22, both of Babylon, N.Y., were arraigned at state Superior Court in Norwalk early Thursday afternoon by Judge Maureen Dennis, who released them after they each posted $5,000 bond.

Adam Joyce was charged with performing craftsman work without a license, illegal sales without a tax permit and not providing a notice of cancellation in the repair contract, which tells the homeowner about a mandatory three-day cancellation period.

Travis Joyce was charged with second-degree larceny, performing home improvement without a certificate and not providing the cancellation notice in the work contract.

The investigation began on April 3, a day after the brothers were arraigned in Norwalk on charges of larceny, reckless endangerment and violating state business codes after allegedly performing $3,200 worth of unnecessary chimney work for a 63-year-old Wilton man.

After reading a story about the brothers' arrest in the Advocate, a New Canaan husband and his wife told police Adam Joyce had worked on their chimney and that they were worried that they too were victims of a scam, according to Adam Joyce's arrest warrant affidavit.

They said that on Feb. 20, nearly five weeks before the Joyces' arrest in Wilton, a company named S&H Contracting called to schedule a $40 chimney cleaning and inspection at their Village Drive home.

When Adam Joyce arrived, he said the chimney had a cracked liner and would cost $3,500 to fix. After negotiating, Joyce was paid $2,800 for the work, the arrest affidavit said.

A subsequent inspection of the chimney by Oxford-based Connecticut Chimney and Vent LLC found serious problems with the flue.

Connecticut Chimney owner James Jaffe said a new chimney liner was installed improperly and 30 percent of the flue was blocked. The owner had to pay Connecticut Chimney $3,058 to fix the damage caused by S&H Contracting, the affidavit said.

In late June, New Canaan police were contacted by a 56-year-old Stonehenge Drive woman who said that she was contacted by S&H near the end of January for a free chimney inspection.

She told police that Travis Joyce and two other men told her that her chimney was falling apart and should be repaired immediately, according to Travis Joyce's arrest affidavit. She signed a contract to have her chimney liner repaired for $3,500.

When Jaffe inspected the woman's chimney, he found the liner was installed improperly, the affidavit said.

The Joyce brothers have not made pleas in their New Canaan cases and are to return to court Sept. 21. They pleaded not guilty to the charges in the Wilton case.

    Chimney Sweep

Avoid this company at all costs!!! The morning after the sweep, our chimney cap was on our back deck. So I called to have them come back to replace it, they said "just leave it out where he can see it." On the appointed day I came home to find their card stuffed in my mailslot, the cap still on the back deck. I called, was told "the cap was not there". I told her I am looking at it right now, it most definitely WAS there. She now tells me that they will have to charge me to replace it, since their guy said he never went on the roof, couldn't have knocked it off. I asked "didn't he sweep the top of the chimney?" She said "He said the top of the chimney was clean". I said "HOW DID HE KNOW THE TOP OF THE CHIMNEY WAS CLEAN, IF HE NEVER WENT UP ON THE ROOF?!" Looong pause, then I am put on hold again. She comes back, and says that she'd be happy to have the guy call me to answer my questions, but they will still charge me for replacing the cap that THEY KNOCKED OFF.

My experience working with interstate ventilation was nothing less then incredible. I had other companies quote me all this work that I didn't need. For a hole lot of money that I didn't have to spend. When Joel and John came from Interstate Ventilation. There professionalism and knowledge was hands down far more superior then any other company I had delt with. Not only did they do a great job fixing my chimney. They did it for much less then the other companies were going to charge. I would recommend them to anyone. Sincerely your customer for life.
