We are very disappointed with IRONMAN construction (Brian Shattuck). While working with Brian we were betrayed, deceived, and cheated. We learned a life lesson during this process, and that people are very capable of dishonest acts.
We were referred to Brain by a family member, so we made the mistake of not checking references, a.k.a. sub-contractors.
Within the first month of working with Mr. Shattuck, we realized that we made a huge mistake. Within the first two months, we were trying to figure out a way to terminate Mr. Shattuck’s employment without causing a huge delay in the building of our house, but we couldn’t find a good solution. Every time we went to our home to check the progress, where Mr. Shattuck very rarely visited, we were informed by the sub-contractors that their tolerance with Mr. Shattuck was running very thin. More than several subs said, to my wife and I, that they were not going to accept jobs from Mr. Shattuck after our home was complete.
The entire process was a nightmare. If I could go back in time, I would have followed my gut feeling and terminated Mr. Shattuck. My wife and I feel that Mr. Shattuck took full advantage of first time home builders; first and last time we build because of this horrible experience.
I could rant and rave forever, but I’ll spare you the dozens of issues that occurred and focus on the issues that were the most maddening.
I’ll start from the beginning. We should have realized that something was not right from the get-go. When my wife and I were interviewing Mr. Shattuck, he was within our top three candidates, he made an offer that if we signed with him that night he would include several bonuses, some tile that he had in his garage and several other “freebees”. We declined his offer and said that we didn’t feel comfortable making a hasty decision on something this complex.
After reviewing our other potential contractor candidates, we decided to go with IRONMAN constriction for 1 reason, his bid came in the lowest; big mistake! We thought that with the money we were saving by going with IRONMAN we could buy the wife a new car; were we ever so wrong. Not only did we spend more money than the highest bid, but we drained our savings account and more. Mr. Shattuck grossly underbid many items in what I believe was an attempt to get our business.
During the signing of Mr. Shattuck’s contract, we made certain of the type and material that we planned on using. Mr. Shattuck acknowledge and said that he hasn’t had time to get bid on the Hardie Board, but don’t be too concerned about it, remember we have never built a house before, so we agreed and signed the contract and took his word for it.
I stressed to Brian that I wanted an 18-foot garage opening/door. This was extremely important to me. After the foundation was poured and the walls began going up, I noticed that the garage door seemed small; It measured 16 feet. I notified Brian and he said that it would cost me money to get if fixed. Even though it was on him to insure the correct building of our house, he refused to cover his mistake, so I let it be. (cheated)
Next, he came to me saying that he didn’t bid in the stairs to our basement. I said that it’s on the plans, so it should be included. He said that I would need to cover half of the mistake; relucted I agreed.
Then came the Hardie Board and aluminum fascia. He came to me and said that the extra for the Hardie Board and aluminum fascia was going to cost me $3,792 and to paint the Hardie Board was going to be $1,800. I argued with him that he should cover the cost, but he refused to cover any of the expense. He said that his contract states 4 walls of stucco finish. I said that we agreed on Hardie Board during signing, but he refused to help us cover any of the expense. (Deceived, cheated and betrayed)
Ask his sub-contractors to confirm; John Jimerson Concrete, Higgins Electrical, Kelsey Excavating, John Rowley rain gutter.
Very disorganized, frequently late, difficult to communicate with. I would have to continually remind him of past conversations.
I honestly feel like Brain Shattuck wronged us and took full advantage of my family. At the time, I was working fulltime, attending fulltime school and I was still onsite more than him. Luckily my pregnant wife, at the time, and I have opposite work schedules, so it allowed one of us to check on the house daily. We have blocked Brian’s phone number and registered his email as spam. I have never had to write a review or seek counsel from an attorney until I met Brian Shattuck. My savings is exhausted and my wife is still driving her car that just hit 200,000 miles. Do your research ask around and don’t make the same mistake that I did.

We used Ironman Construction to build our home in Washington Utah. Brian was on top of everything and we have referred others to him. HE did a great job. THanks Brian.
