I can't recommend anyone hire John. In fact, I actively encourage people to avoid hiring John at all costs. It pains me to write this review because I think John is a good person and I enjoyed our interactions.
We hired John to install a new electrical system at our old 1925 house. It was a big job and he completed the majority of the work in a passable fashion. Unfortunately he did not finish the entirety of the work despite us paying him. Work that was not completed or complete poorly includes:
- Installation of light fixtures
- Making can lights fully dimmable (they only dim %10 currently making them effectively unusable)
- Installation of outdoor outlet
- Fixing the can light installation so it is flush with the ceiling
- Fixing the bathroom fan he installed which sounds awful
- Fixing fire alarm installations (two are dangling from the ceiling)
- Adding light switches and face plates to electrical outlets
I last interacted with John in July 2022 where he reviewed the problems identified above and additional work we would like completed. He promised to come back, finish the work and send us an estimate for any new work we discussed.
It has been over a month and despite 11 phone calls, 4 emails and 1 txt message, we have not heard anything back from him. He has actively delayed further renovations on our home and owes us labor and/or a significant refund.
We have submitted a complaint to the Better Business Bureau of California and will pursue litigation if needed.
