    Full remodel

I now see how ironic or perhaps foreshadowing it was that we hired this man on April Fool’s Day. This was our first experience hiring a contractor and I pray to God it will be the last. I feel I must have found the slowest, most incompetent one out there.. maybe they all are and that’s why you can’t find a soul that will give you a recommendation. We did a walkthrough of things we wanted to have done and were assured the requests were fine and hired this man, by 10/24 I was pretty convinced he made a bunch of false promises and couldn't complete the jobs he claimed. So far not a single job has been done the way we requested ( in spite of drawing), the very simple task of installing a vanity centered on a wall was done incorrectly and then took weeks for them to correct. Kitchen counters have had to be recut multiple times and somehow get worse every time. Anytime we questioned when things would be done the answer was always two weeks, I’m beginning to think it’s two weeks from when hell freezes over! Repeatedly he would lie to my husband about time lines, repeatedly he would lie about what would be or had been completed that week. Sadly we aren’t made of money and only hired them for things we couldn’t complete ourselves and as the months ticked by felt like we were being screwed. We arrive every week to our manual labor to find that they haven’t been there at all. For months I made excuses for this man even felt bad for him he claimed he was in the hospital which I now see was also probably a lie. At the six month point we were forced to come to the soul crushing realization that this man has been lying and stringing us along. Obviously this man is taking on more than his business or health can handle, or he’s not taking on enough managing his money poorly and can’t afford to replenish supplies to finish his projects. Or perhaps ultimately he’s just a habitual liar that makes promises he knows damn well he can’t deliver. I guess I will be joining the crew of people with their lips firmly buttoned when someone asks for a contractor recommendation. So far the quality of the very little bit of work it’s done has been done sadly lacking!! Avoid this man like the plague!

Basically I feel I have learned that unless you have vast quantities of money don’t bother with a contractor because they will screw you over. Believe me there’s nothing more frustrating than someone taking your nest egg and then vanishing. I just wanted to hire a contractor, not learn all these new things about getting screwed over, getting friendly with the BBB, learning about the Registrar of Contractors, worried that I’ll be tracking down lawyers! NONE of these things were the plan.

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

    Kitchen/Master bath remodel
    $29,000

Worst experience ever! Hired JG for a kitchen remodel and master bath custom tile shower. Contractor claims he employes a tile layer. Not true at the time. First shower was built, angles were so far off at every corner, plumbing was installed incorrectly water flowed under the tile and onto the bathroom floor, grout had holes so large I could stick my fingers in. Entire shower had to be jack hammered out which broke the adjoining wall to my office. Second shower floor replacement tile purchased by JG was so cheap that it could not hold grout and his crew informed me they could not use it, they scooped it out with a shovel while I went to buy a third set of tile. When I returned home 30 minutes later at 2pm his crew had "called it a day". He only sent his crew 1-2 days a week and they rarely worked 8 hours. He never came inside to check their work. Third floor was built and shower was usable but craftsmanship was not professional.
JG also remodeled my kitchen. First set of cabinets he brought in did not fit due to when he measured he did not take into account the sloped ceiling in my kitchen, counters also did not fit because JG measured them incorrectly. Cabinets/countertops were installed/uninstalled multiple times leaving extra screw holes and scratches. Cabinet above microwave was installed upside down then had to be turned over so now it has an extra cut out for microwave power cord, patch work was done leaving inside looking like junk. Plumbing installed under kitchen sink leaked, I had to pay a plumber to come and fix as JG would not return my texts. Electrical ran to kitchen island caused other issues and had to be disconnected, I had to pay an electrician to troubleshoot. Cabinets not mounted correctly, will have to pay a carpenter to correct many issues in the kitchen.
Signed a contract with JG, he required 60% down, then 5% 2 months later. He did not complete the contract as written. Did not replace bathroom vanities, have to hire another contractor to complete. Was not willing to honor discounts offered for poor workmanship when job was over until we argued over it. I had to involve the ROC to get items completed. His crew left my yard a mess for 3 months until the day before the ROC inspection when they showed up enmasse to clean up. Trash blew all over and plants were killed because they left tile and drywall laying on top of them, I had to clean up my yard multiple times during the 5 months that it took to complete what was completed of the contract.
