Evelyn and Elvin Rivera de Dominguez of J & J Painting guaranteed us (and repeatedly assured us) that they had the talent and skills to prep and paint 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and 2 hallways in our home.
J & J Painting did not complete the job properly, destroyed the drywall and surface of the walls, damaged crown molding and baseboards in all areas, and scratched hardwood flooring. They walked off the job without completing it or fixing their damage. They sued us in Conciliation Court and LOST. The Conciliation Court determined they owe us $4,000 because “the quality of the work here is very poor and J and J Painting damaged the Defendant’s home.”
J & J Painting scraped off the wallpaper in our bedrooms and bathrooms with joint knives and cut into the drywall destroying the walls. They also damaged the crown molding and baseboards by hitting them with their knives and slopping plaster and paint on them. J & J Painting acknowledged they improperly removed the wallpaper, destroyed the drywall, and scratched and nicked up the trim work. They then tried to fix their mistakes by skim-coating the walls leaving us with uneven surfaces everywhere.
J & J Painting also applied non-paintable caulk around sinks and tile in the bathrooms and then tried to paint over it causing a huge mess and making it look terrible. To fix this, the caulk needs to be removed, and replaced with paintable caulk, and the areas all need to be repainted.
J & J Painting’s paint job throughout was inadequate (destroying drywall, missing spots, slopping paint on other spots, improperly plastering over access panels, getting plaster on the crown molding, baseboards, and cabinetry). And after showing them during the entire job process that their work was inadequate they promised to fix their mistakes but never properly did so.
