In December 2023, I hired J & S Quality Builders LLC for a small Garage conversion. The owner is a very nice gentleman but his business, not so much. It took over 6 months, due to them not showing up for 30 days after giving them 1/3 of the total job up front. When they did start, they were only there 2-3 days a week for 3-5 hours. The owner only stayed for a couple of hours on those days leaving the job to day laborers. Many mistakes were made and some he tried saying it was my fault (the homeowner) because I messed up with the measurement. I refused to pay that. He did a couple of things at no charge which I ended up paying for. Although he did put down tarps, it was left to me to up plastic to prevent dust which ended up covering the entire downstairs. We had to do a complete dusting of the entire house 4x. Debris was left wherever they were cutting things, trash left in piles in front of our house for months and they were even bringing trash from other jobs. It was not removed until 3 days after I asked. Measurements were off by ¾ of an inch on the front widow height and ½ in on the width, bathroom window was smaller than agreed to and was not smoked glass. Door jams are not correct etc., etc., etc. The final straw was the upstairs bathtub was working fine but had a small drip into the garage. I asked him to fix it and he said ok. (this was one on the N/C items that I ended up paying for). I watched him remove the lever and reseal it. Leak was gone. Job is finally finished. 2 months later we have the grand kids sleep over. Grandmom goes to bath the children, and the drain doesn't lift up allowing the tub to hold water. After numerous calls and texts, I had to wait 2 weeks until he was back from vacation. He doesn't show and after another week I sent numerous texts and calls and was put off for another 2 weeks due to another vacation. Finally he shows up and checks the tub and tells us to spray it with WD40 to free it up and he will research the fix, so he doesn't have to take down the ceiling downstairs. ( instead of going through the access door??) OK, I waited 1 week, and I had to call him (no answer) so I texted, and he says after talking to 2 plumbers and Weinstein Plumbing it is stuck with soap scum, hair and corrosion. He recommended some products for ME to try. I sent many more texts (because he won't answer the phone) asking how this could be when he just had it out and there was no sign of corrosion or scum, and if there was why didn't you tell me. I also reminded him that it worked fine before he touched it. No response. I offered to have a plumber fix it and if it was what he said I would pay, if not he would pay NO REPLY. If decide to hire him, be very careful, READ your contract thoroughly and adjust as needed and get everything in writing. Hold the last check for at least 30 days after completion so all aspects can be checked before final payment. I wish I did.
