I like my house so it's unfortunate to have to write a negative review about Hughston Homes. However, sharing this information about the warranty process after closing is necessary. We are dealing with erosion from storm drains and easements and from the builder not replacing sod that was dead before we closed on the home.
I'd like to provide recommendations for people experiencing difficulty in getting the builder to fix issues after closing.
First, document everything. Keep a record of every conversation that you have with the builder after talking with them. Save this information to help you remember what was said and done. Send yourself an email or voice recording of interactions between you and the builder. Take videos and pictures of issues with your home as well. Also, send a follow-up email to the builder's warranty department as well.
Second, contact the Better Business Bureau. Oftentimes, the builder will not respond or will come to your house and say they will fix things, but won't do anything after they leave. This is especially the case for problems that require more expensive fixes. Contacting this agency increases the likelihood that you will get a response, and that Hughston Homes will follow through on promises to fix issues with your house.
Third, look up local code requirements in your area. You have more leverage to get the builder to fix issues that are found to be code violations. Most places have an online system where you can report issues.
Finally, contact representatives dealing with land development in your local area. Authorities in your county usually have the power to get the builder to fix issues as well.
I'm sharing these tips that have helped me to get some issues resolved on my property. Be persistent and I hope that this helps.

We have been building a home with Hughston homes since march now and have had to watch everything they do. We ordered "upgrades" that didn't get installed and when we pointed it out they had to rip out sheetrock to install the upgrades. They also claim to be a custom home builder but don't ask for any upgrades. They will quote you exorbitant prices, in hopes that you won't do them, or just say it can't be done. Their customer service is abysmal, and the communication is even worse. They didn't tell us that our home would have to have a front entrance garage when the home we were shown and floor plan all had a side entrance garages. When Jack (The Owner) was told about the problems his reply, to my understanding, was he didn't care. This is a cookie cutter home builder with poor management that is too busy to give good customer service. If you want to be a project manager and get poor customer service, this is the builder for you! We should have trusted the other reviews out there about this builder. Do you due diligence, please.

We bought a Hughston Hone two years ago in Hardin Valley. And while the homes appear to be beautiful, their workmanship is TERRIBLE and the homes are very cheaply constructed. We have had AC problems, plumbing and electrical issues as well. It has been one thing after another not only with our hone but with most in our subdivision.
It you’re going to build a pretty home, take the time to do it well.
Hughston homes suck.
