By Paul B.December 3, 2019Paint our entire home (interior / exterior / custom wood finishes)$25,000Read more
We just had a home built in Bozeman ($1.1M project). Our General Contractor subcontracted with Jacob Bruner Painting to paint the interior / exterior of our home.
We paid extra for a smooth wall finish across all our interior walls. Rather than Jacob waiting and insisting the drywall subcontractor apply a skim coat to the walls (required for smooth wall finish), Jacob and his team, Jacob and team came in and primed the entire home. They sprayed paint all over our tile, white oak flooring, window casings, cabinets and exterior metal roof. After priming, there were 500+ areas on the walls that were scratched / defective, most which would have been filled in with a skim coat of mud. Jacob's team patched only a handful of these defective areas,in many cases not coming back and sanding the patched areas, and then painted all walls before patching / sanding. Suddenly, we had hundreds of areas on the walls which had been patched and not sanded, further compounding the number of issues with the walls. They then came back and patched the areas they missed (sanding some of them), but then took a roller and painted only the patched areas vs. the entire wall. This created many blotchy spots across the walls. When asked to address this by repainting the walls, Jacob's team came back and said they painted the walls we marked for repainting, but lied...they didn't paint many of the walls. They also didn't paint the baseboards which have pencil marks everywhere.
Further, I personally spent over 30 hours onsite marking all the defects on the walls with blue painters tape so Jacob and his crew could correct the issues. Every time, they simply removed the blue tape and only fixed some of the areas marked. Even when the fixed the issues and sanded, they didn't brush off the walls, creating more deformities in the walls. In the closets, they didn't dust off the shelves which had wood particles on them, electing to just paint over them (now our clothes catch on the rough surfaces)
If you ever need someone to paint for you, I would 100% stay clear of this business. Terrible experience, dishonest and my brother even overheard Jacob's crew badmouthing us (unbeknownst to Jacob's team) for calling them out on a poor job and lack of attention to detail. We are moved into our home now and continue to find areas where they cut corners, dropped things on our floors and dented them, etc.

My experience with Jacob Brunner painting has been terrible and very unprofessional. Very unskilled painters. The foreman also threatened to beat me up and tell his friend police officers to pull me over if they see me driving. Im not sure why they think that sort of behavior is acceptable but then again some businesses just simply suck!
