I had a terrible experience working with this contractor. We hired him without checking any references, which was a bad idea. We did ask for references, but he never gave. We were in a hurry and did not do our homework.
He works alone and does not write anything on paper or text messages. Talks you into getting started with the initial payment, which is one-third of the total. That will be the beginning of your nightmares. He never listens or gives any choices. Since nothing is written up upfront, you would think he would work with you as work progresses. He keeps threatening to stop work and suggests to go ahead and hire someone else. Works only after receiving payment for future work including the final payment, which is against local law. This shows how poorly he thinks of his workmanship, and how bad he had his prior work encounters. Do not make the mistake of hiring without checking prior references. It is really tough to think of construction ahead of time if you haven't had any experience but get in writing as much as possible. He does not give receipts for payments, so do not make any payments in cash.
