By Pamela M.December 18, 2018Total home remodel$80,000
James Dobbs did a complete remodel of our 37 y/o home. This included removal of popcorn ceilings which is usually a very messy proposition. He sealed off each room as he worked so there was little mess. He totally gutted and remodeled a bathroom, installing tile floors and walls cabinets, sinks, lighting and a a walk in jacuzzi tub. He installed 2 niches for supplies and did details decorative tile. He hung mirrors, medicine cabinets and even hung a TV. He also gutted my large kitchen and installed new cabinets, removed wallpaper, suggested tongue and groove ceilings that are beautiful with granite countertops. He installed wood floors in several rooms. He removed a 20 foot brick fireplace and built a custom mantle, hearth and amazing coffered ceilings. His work is beautiful and he used talented sub-contractors, some days there were 6 other subs here to meet the expected deadline. We couldn’t be happier. Our home is beautiful and updated. He is easy to work with and made several suggestions that we used.

He breached a signed agreement to perform some paint job and accessibility modifications to a closet and bathroom, for a disabled couple. Under the thread to them of ripping and destroying the partially unfinished job and leaving the contracted job immediately, he forced the handicapped couple to give him half of the amount of money they agreed on for the whole job, or he was abandoning the project. His argument was that he feared " out of the blues", that he wasn't going to get paid. The couple under such situation they gave him the amount he was asking for and promised he would be back the next day to finish the job. Later that evening he text them stating that was quitting the project and that he wouldn't come again. He left them hanging and the workplace a mess. This couple have a young child to care for and needed to move in As Soon as Possible, because this home was rented and they needed to vacate their previous apartment. Mr.Dobbs, not only was abusive, but breached the contract even though he got paid the amount he was asking for in order to continue with the work, but also was verbally abusive without provocation.
Please be careful with this contractor. If he is capable of doing this to defenseless disabled people, imagine what you would have to deal with if he decided to get paranoid with his pay with anyone else hiring him. The couple is filing a complaint with the Florida Department of Professional Regulations, the Orange County Licensing Department and a legal lawsuit in the Orange County 5th Court District for damages, breach of contract, abusing a person with disabilities, suffering under distress and fraud.

Permits
- Building permit records show that James Dobbs and Associates Inc has worked on 27 permitted projects.
He was very knowledgeable and fairly priced. He often asked for payment while doing the work instead of completing the job first. He put down 2300 sq ft of porcelain tile that is half right not even at any point, then argued with my wife after she questioned if the tile was going to be corrected. He then pulled all the people helping him and leaving the job site.
I had to have my brother come and help finish up the job. James came back himself to help finish. We still find today areas he said he painted but did not.
DO NOT USE THIS GUY!!!
