Oh- my....it’s so hard to read reviews of people who do NOT do there research adequately. Roof leaks 5 years later when workmanship is 3 years in MD. Not only that, but OFTEN the issue or cause of the leak has nothing to do with the roof at all but the homeowner does not thoroughly investigate the root of the cause- always easiest to blame the installer.
We, too, had windows that had issues; however, the windows (all of the windows many contractors install come from warehouses because they are CUSTOM made to the specifications of the house and homeowner- not off the shelf standard sizes). Do your research and research the product being offered. Remember that those unhappy leave reviews. But its not often that satisfied customers do- and keep in mind, again, there may be other issues that you aren’t seeing. It certainly isn’t a contractor’s fault when a window company goes out of business unexpectedly. Do you honestly think Mr. Moats would install a defective window from a company he knew was going out of business? Do you think he wants to field the complaints from customers because of issues with the window? I doubt it.Mr. Moats has been around longer than any other contractor. We used him 14 years ago for a new home build and have been 100% satisfied. We did need to replace glass in a few windows that were blown- but that is not abnormal, not the contractors fault, and is COMMON with every window manufacturer. This means you are paying for the contractor to come out and remove the glass and paying for them to reinstall it. Know why? Its the PRODUCT that is defective.
Example- sold our house, the inspector saw a spot on the inside attic roof with water damage (caused during the build when it was not covered- NEVER aby leak in roof). The new homeowners sent a roofing inspector out who pulled up on a section of the roof and broke the seal (clearly a no no). Upon my research on this roofing inspector, I learned that he did not even hold an MHIC license.
Onto another new home build and we will absolutely be using the services of this highly respected and knowledgeable contractor. I've done my homework, the licensing regulation board knows me by name as I have thoroughly investigated ALL of the subs that we have considered for our building projects.
Angie's list, BuildZoom, Better Business Bureau mean zilch- just an outlet for homeowners to degrade a contractor. Have a complaint or question in regards to a contractor, contact the appropriate licensing board and see what complaints are open or have been lodged. There's two sides to every story. -

Replaced a roof on our Home and Spring House. Did not install flashing around entire house and chimney and now the roof leaks into the second floor. It's ruined the renovation to the second floor. Called to complain and was told to "kiss my a**"....

We had all new windows installed in our home which had a lifetime warranty only to find out a year later the company went out of business. We already had 2 windows lose their seal one being the picture window in the front of our house. Several calls to Moats got zero response so we are (SOL) out of luck. Also all the caulking around the seams had to be redone a year later by myself.

We had all new windows installed in our home. Supposedly a lifetime warranty only to find out the company went out of business. All windows have lost their seals and are foggy. Several calls to James Moats and was told to kiss his ass. If you are considering James Moats, turn and run the other direction. Liar and thief. Would NOT recommend.
