Jay Jewell did indeed do work for us, which involved new footings and supports for a large deck built on a slope, as well as replacing a section of a wall of our house that had been compromised by an "outbuilding" that was not detached. That job involved new external paneling as well as windows, internal wall material, rewiring and, last but not least, shoring up and reinforcing the carrying beam. The work was begun when we were not yet here (it is a summer residence) and carried over into the first ten days that we were around.
In short, it was a pretty extensive job, and we are totally satisfied with the way it worked out. (Things that we didn't like were not his fault, for instance because the house was without a back wall for a spell, mice and ground squirrels managed to settle in for a while.) In fact, when I had a couple of follow-up questions, after the invoice was paid, Jay came down to Lee to look and talk things over. So I would give him the highest recommendation.
I should add that we got Jay through the intercession of Jeromy Richardson, the architect who drew up the plans Jay followed and solicited the actual contract. We consulted with Jeromy who spoke highly of Jay, and who also assured us that Jay's offer was quite reasonable, given the work that was to be done.
