I was quite surprised by our experience with Jay. He started off as a very personable guy who seemed very interested in the construction job, yet as time progressed he was much less responsive and we never truly had a handle on what was next to begin the project, extremely poor communication. He needs someone to manage his front office while he builds! Basically we put a down payment to begin the project and Covid hit. We agreed to wait some time yet during this time our down payment remained with him collecting our interest, yet no plans to start the job at our house. After texting him numerous times to get back our down payment, we received no response! Only after we suggested lawyers is when he responded. When he finally got to returning what was owed from the 5 K down payment, we quickly realized something was off from his itemized list of “charges” we did not sign off on. Basically after getting nothing out 5k was gone and $200 was returned to us! I might not have been as upset if Jay spoke to us directly and was more upfront. I suppose we learned our lesson and will be much more thoughtful about what is important when you hire a contractor! Communication and transparency is key!
