    Remodel of condo

My experience with Mr, Marshall was awful!!!!! I would not recommend him to anyone. If you want a contractor who will NOT communicate with you than he would be your man. If you want a contractor who will charge you for things like permits and designs and NOT do any of those things than this is the man for you! If you want an honest contractor that will not take advantage of senior citizens and communicate with them and keep them informed than JC Marshall is not the contractor for you!!!!!! What ever you do, do not give him all his money until he is finished and you are satisfied with his work....I foolishly paid him in full, but he was suppose to hold the check until the job was completed, which he ran to the bank to cash. My daughter advised me to stop payment because at the time I was still in Maryland and didn't know what was going on. I told her no he is honest and nice....her reply to that was that is how SCAMMERS take advantage of people. This man promised to return the money or those 2 items but he is a LIAR!!!!! Do not trust him.....do your research on him and his from man.

change the slope of concrete in patio area to direct water flow

Where does one begin seems to say it all when talking about this contractor. He was hired by my condo HOA Board on the recommendation of Sentry our management company. Our unit had water sitting outside the door when it would rain. They hired this company to solve the problem. The problem was worse as once they started the work we had water inside the unit. Now the company is saying it isn't their fault when they are clearly negligent and refusing to submit a claim so we can be reimbursed for the damages that are not covered under the HOA insurance nor ours since the water came into the unit from the outside. Probably going to hire an attorney . DO NOT HIRE!!!!!

    New House Construction

WOW ... where does one begin! Was very supersized to see that he was still in the business and even more supersized that he was still in the area.

The year, 1985 .... Our dream home, dumb to the whole building construction avenue and we've been rebuilding our home ever since. I had a design and Jim said he could do our drawings (save us some money). He drew them, bid it and we accepted. The numbers were awesome, boy were we dumb and in the end had to take out a second mortgage just to finish the house.

Please note: 1) Get "everything" in writing 2) Get more than one bid 3) Check the subs #s with the specified subs 4) Get a release of lien from subs 5) Think of anything that could go wrong, expect delays and go into the project with eyes wide open 6) Have a real building engineer do your house plans 7) Do your homework 8) Don't sign off on the build until the build is contractualy meet

Now back to our story. We really didn't see the drawings except in the hands of the crew when we came to see the progress. And when we where on site was bombarded by that crew & subs asking us what to do.

The vision of how our roof was to look, and when it was up wasn't that vision. Needless to say our house has approximately 3/4 separate roofs combined to make one. Roofers/Insurance Adjusters/Building Engineers all have come down to say we have one of the screwiest roofs they have ever seen.

When it came time for the cabinetry I went to the company listed on the bid and was informed that they never bid it, had never seen the plans and when told who our builder was ... the comment was " oh, him". Later discovered he "had a guy" ..... that guy turned out to work for a cabinet company working on they sly using that companies supplies. I wasn't going to let him do my kitchen until I saw how the bathroom cabinets were. Turned out "that guy" had a "guy" that did those & knew how to do a solid wood cabinet (this of course we didn't discover until later). We moved in with unfinished fiberboard kitchen base cabinets, no uppers & the counter top for the cook top island had an over sized cut out (it took him 3x's to get it right}. We didn't know they were fiberboard until I went to get some silverware and was holding the face to a drawer in one hand and looking at the drawer still in the cabinet.

I can go on and on but will touch on only some of the highlights. I do remembered him taking supplies from one of his builds to build some of this house. We didn't know what color we were going to use on the walls and asked that they be painted white .... they were never primed, discovered this when the texture rolled onto the paint roller. The promise of 3 to 4 months turned into 6 months with a punch list longer than my arm which was twisted by the crew to "sign off" for monies to have for Christmas.

In conclusion, had I known then what I know now ........

Watch out for Jim Marshall and JC Marshall Construction, Merritt Island, Fl.
He presented with industry references and a valid Florida GC license. He signed contracts for both plans and construction, and promised to do the whole job in 10 months. He was paid almost $70,000.00 in fees and advances. 10 months later, he still hadn't successfully pulled a permit or shown any ability to actually complete the job. He then said he wanted out, but refused to refund monies advanced. Formal complaints were filed with the State of Fla. Div. of Licensing and the Sheriffs office. He is unresponsive to communication and seems to have disappeared. Suit has been filed against him in excess of $100,000.00.
Be careful about hiring him for anything. If it happened to us, it could happen to you. He may still have a license, and had pulled permits for roofing and remodeling jobs prior to screwing us. His whereabouts are currently unknown, but If he reappears, we will advise further

Response from Jc Marshall Construction, Inc October 12, 2017
My track record speaks for itself. There have been 0 complaints from any of the 143 projects listed on this site. I have been in business for 37 years. You can check the Dept of business and professional regulation website for my licenses and see there isn't a complaint listed under my license for this customer or any other. The man posting this complaint is not the party with whom I contracted and apparently not aware that the Owner stopped the permitting process. The 10 month delay was completely caused by the Owner, taking 4 months to provide me with needed paperwork for permitting. When I finally obtained this needed paperwork, he decided to redesign the entire house for the 3rd time causing another 4 month delay. I was never paid $70,000. This amount includes money the Owner paid for items outside of my contract. I currently have a lawsuit filed against this Owner for breach of contract. As for disappearing and my whereabouts currently being unknown, a slanderous attempt to make me look criminal, my location, email and phone numbers appear in numerous locations through the internet. Anyone looking to reach me can do so easily. I have lived in the same location for almost 30 years. Please do not let this ridiculous / slanderous review sway your opinion of my company. Where are the complaints from the other 143 projects listed on this site? My rating on this site has me within the top 20% of all Florida Contractors. I was in the top 10% until this unwarranted review.
